"What does that make us now?", Cas wondered, laying in Dean's lap with his head while Dean zapped through TV channels on the couch. Gabriel had come back approximately half an hour ago, just to take Sam away for some "surprise fun evening", leaving the two of them alone in an empty house.
"Hm?", Dean tenderly stroked Cas's cheek, and his breath hitched.
"I wanted... to know... to ask... are we, like, official... like, official boyfriends now?"
If Dean had been distracted before by the TV, he now looked down at Cas, who was nervously fumbling with the sleeve of Dean's resting arm. "I don't know, are we?"
Cas managed an eye roll despite the serious topic. "That's what I'm asking you, dumbass."
"Hey, don't be rude," Dean grinned, pecking Cas's cheek in return.
"Oh, I'm sorry, sweet little adorable princess, please respond to my question with a real answer and no returning question," Cas tried his best to get the highest pitch out of his voice that the natural deepness of it allowed. "Is that better for you, sunshine?"
"Hundred times better, darling." Dean grinned wildly. "Is that okay as a pet name for you, or nah?"
Cas shrugged. "Call me what you want, Dean. For me, you'll always just be Dean, because there is no better name in the world. Dean is exactly what I need in life, so why change the name of something that important?"
"I guess you have a point." Dean stared at the TV again. Then he added a lot more quietly: "But nothing is gonna keep me from giving you pet names."
"Yet, you didn't answer my question."
"I know." Dean fell silent again, and just when Cas was about to speak up, Dean had made up his mind; or at least, to 69%, because the slowness he was talking at symbolized he hadn't finished any thought progress yet.
"Well, Cas. You can consider me your boyfriend if you want. Hell, I want to consider you my boyfriend. I don't know... I just... it sounds lame, y'know?"
Cas took that in. "Perhaps; if you're used to better standards, anyway. But that means it's okay for you if I tell... my friends that I'm your boyfriend? Even if it may be talked about in public?"
"Wait a second, Cas." Dean looked at him somewhat offended. "I seriously hope you did not expect to get to be with me, but stop me from showing your hot ass off, did you?"
Cas squinted, analyzing the sentence structure to find out whether Dean had used 'sarcasm' or 'irony' or some other kind of metaphor etc. that only irritated from the true meaning behind the words.
"So, it's okay for you... for us to be out in public?", he summed up, confused.
"Yes, Cas, it's not just okay for me, it's good. Better. I want everyone to know you are taken, so that nobody tries to sneak you off from me."
Cas scoffed. "I think I should be the one worried about that."
"What only are you implying again," Dean snorted disdainfully. "You are awesome, Cas, which people will know as soon as they spend a few minutes with you. And knowing many people go after looks, you aren't bad at that, either. Just look at you, man – your face basically screams "I'm hot and cute to the same time, come fuck me" while your mouth says "I'm hot and cute to the same time, but still, go away and fuck off." It's a frustrating sight for everyone with eyes that is attracted to the male gender, believe me."
"I thought you didn't realize any deeper feelings for me only a short while ago."
"Yes, but it's undeniable how handsome you are and always have been, my dear."
