A/N: JUST IGNORE THE TITLE; HELL I WASN'T EVEN SUPPOSED TO HAVE TO FIND ONE FOR THIS CHAPTER, AS IT WASN'T SUPPOSED TO EXIST

"What do you want to do, Dean?", Cas asked casually, and Dean shrugged. He had realized that today was most likely special somehow, and that he probably wouldn't see his home so soon.

"Dunno. I'm up for anything, really."

Cas eyed him for a moment and then took his hand, starting to walk down the street. Dean tensed at first, but Cas' hand around his felt so good, and it wasn't like they had never been together in public before, so he just enjoyed walking down the mall with Cas, happy to show off his boyfriend and even happier when nobody gave them disapproving glares.

Almost too casually Cas asked Dean whether he wanted ice cream when they passed a small but welcoming café, and it made Dean suspect he had planned that all along.

And, somehow, Cas managed to pay here, too, and the warm feeling in his stomach was almost overshadowed by the guilt. But then a thought occurred to him and he could slap himself that he hadn't thought of it before.

"Cas... are we... are you just taking me out on a date?"

Cas gave him a look as if he had just grown a horn on his forehead. "Yes, Dean, that was my intention. Was it that obvious?"

His voice dripped off sarcasm and Dean laughed nervously, licking off the ice cream in his waffle. They had played with the thought to share one, but they both hadn't wanted to sit down and walking and sharing was too complicated for such a relaxed, good day, so they'd spared that for the next time.

"Wait, Dean." Cas stopped dead in his tracks and gave Dean a look. "You did realize we were on a date, right?"

"Yes – uhm, yeah, of course," he said quickly.

Cas frowned. "What did you think we were doing?"

Dean sighed and wouldn't meet Cas' eyes. He was ashamed now that he thought about it.

"You mistrusted everyone being nice to you, didn't you? You didn't think they could just be nice to you for no reason, because you think you don't deserve anyone treating you nice for nothing in return," Cas stated, figuring Dean out exactly. He cocked his head, a sad expression darkening his face. "You were suspicious all day."

Dean raised his eyes, unable to answer. Cas' blue eyes had something so comfortable about them, the more he looked into them, the more he realized that he could have been a little more open, that it was pretty messed up, the way he thought. But it did not change anything about the truth in Cas' analyzation. He still thought that, and he would probably always think that.

"Dean." Cas took his hand, and while Cas had magically managed to stay clean, Dean's was hot and sticky, dry ice cream on it, and he wanted to embarrassingly take it back so that Cas didn't have to suffer, but Cas wouldn't let him (I feel like I used way too many Cas's instead of pronouns in this sentence help).

"That is not true. I will not go about how you deserve far more than me 'cause than you will only judge ME for being self-deprecating, but instead make it clear to you how much I love you for who you are, 'cause you are amazing the way you are, and you deserve the love given to you, because you are amazing and incredible and one of the best people I've ever met."

"Cas. Stop it." The bridge of Dean's nose turned pink, but Cas being Cas, did not stop it.

"I'm so, so sorry for not talking to you earlier about it; I just thought that with time, you'd relax and enjoy yourself, but as it turns out, you have remained paranoid because it won't go into your head that there are people here – many people – who care about you and do everything in their power for you to have a nice day. God, I just really wanted this day to be great for you."
