Say what you want to say, but Jody had Dean's full respect for not even batting an eye at the sight of their fairly interesting group. His little brother was – as always – the only one who looked dressed appropriately for the occasion; the rest of them... not so. If you asked Dean. But then again, he'd never been invited to such a meeting before, so really, what did he know?

Plus, Sam was the reason they were here to begin with, so of course he'd dress properly. Without the bonding between him and Jody's daughter Jess, she wouldn't have helped Dean all those months ago with his problems, and he most likely wouldn't be here. Besides that, taking that bonding, Sam was also the only one who could talk about a real relation to the family.

Which was promptly confirmed when Jessica came into view, wearing an ugly green-white dress that she somehow pulled off well enough to seem pretty, her hair styled fancily as if this was her prom night and not just some Christmas dinner with a "befriended" family, to whose looks she wasn't as indifferent as her mother.

Her eyes lingered only for a moment on Cas' trench coat – why would she care, she didn't know he basically never took it off, and he had washed it before coming here, so it didn't stand out – before moving on to Dean's appearance – her eyes widened a little taking in his confident attitude, the size, the face – and Gabriel's, one that had her hesitating a second longer than the others, which might have to do with the fact Gabriel did actually still wear the same pink pants as before, and a dark blue T-Shirt stomped in it on which the words "Nothing 'bout me's real babe, but I'll make it the damn best faked sex you've ever had" were printed. Dean didn't doubt for a second he had ordered that T-Shirt for him personally.

All in all, Jess didn't really care about her visitors until she beamed at Sam, already taking his hand as if she wanted to drag him inside and never let him go again. "So glad you made it!! Come, come in!"

Dean would've immediately turned away from such a toxic amount of positivity and cheerness, but maybe that was just what his brother needed. Some optimism in a life usually so full of negativity.

Once the "children" were inside, Jody's eyes met Dean's, and his confident attitude immediately lost position. She looked right through him anyway.

"Couldn't have said it any better. We're really happy to welcome you in our house." She nodded to each of the three men standing in front of her, but Dean felt like her never-ending stare like a prickle on his skin.

"It's a pleasure to meet you," Cas smiled politely, but he didn't shake the hand Jody held out for him. He just gave it a confusing look, and Dean fought back a smile. He had forgotten that even though Cas had learned how to make first-meeting-conversation through the countless books he read, he was still a lost cause when it came to socializing behavior that went farther than just some catchphrases.

Gabriel knew his brother just as well and took the hand instead, a charming smile on his lips. "Samoose just can't stop talking about that daughter of yours. Makes me think she's an angel."

"Ah, she's more of a devil in disguise," Jody said dryly and Cas snickered.

Dean darted a confused look between the two of them, as if they shared some common interest and Jody just made a reference.

But Jody looked equally incredulously. "You caught that?"

"Wouldn't miss an Elvis-reference to my dying bed," Cas grinned.

Okay, that would explain it.

If Cas would ever understand an inside joke or reference, of course it would be Elvis Presly related.
