"Hey! Adrianna's here!" Megan exclaimed as she ran towards Adrianna, Roger and the little girl that was our neighbor.
"I can't shake this guy" dad said, Roger and him giving eachother dirty looks.
"And Dylan, look who else got stuck. Your girlfriend!" I heard Adrianna yell, her and Megan pointing at the girl beside her.
Before dad or I could step in, grandpa was already standing next to him.
"Hey, baby" D said as he returned with his soda. "Isn't that the neighbor?" He asked, pointing at the little girl who Megan and Adrianna were pushing under a mistletoe.
"Yeah" I sighed and looked worriedly at Dylan. "He really likes her" I said, pointing my head at my brother.
"Your grandpa is talking to him, he'll be fine" D shrugged, putting an arm around my waist.
All of the sudden, all heads were turned towards Don and Brad. Don was putting Brad in a chokehold as grandpa chuckled.
"At least somebody's taking my advice today" he said proudly.
"Could this Christmas get any weirder?" I exclaimed.
"Hey guys, come on, knock it off. You're making a scene, all right?" Dad said. "Yeah, Don, lean on him!" Grandpa exclaimed, getting a chuckle out of me.
What the fuck is all this?
"Look, look" Brad said as he and Don stopped fighting. We all turned our heads towards my little brother as he was slowly walking towards the girls.
"Oh my god. He's going in for his first kiss" mom said as we all looked at him, waiting for the big moment.
"This is the cutest thing ever" I said as I quickly grabbed my phone and started recording.
"Look, she's standing under the mistletoe" mom said. "Oh my god, where's my phone? Where's your phone?" Mom exclaimed as she began searching for her phone.
"Angel is recording" Don quickly said, stopping mom and turning their attention back to Dylan.
"Look how brave he is. She's all yours, buddy" dad said, even Karen waiting in anticipation.
"Unless she's got a boyfriend. In that case there's always the friend zone" Brad said, making me shush him.
"Look at that smile, she likes him" D said, all adults agreeing.
And right when Dylan was about to go in for a kiss, he walked right past her and oh no..
"He kissed his step sister, oh my god" I quickly lowered the camera as Dylan kissed Adrianna on the mouth.
"Congratulation, you lucky gal" Dylan said before smacking Adrianna's butt.
"Oh my god" D mumbled from beside me.
Poor D, he's stuck with my fucked up family.
"I did it, el padre! I kissed the girl I like!" Dylan exclaimed, grinning at grandpa.
"Yeah! Attaboy!" Grandpa smiled at him. "Dude!" We all looked at grandpa wide eyed.
"Did you just kiss your sister? You sick kid!" Roger exclaimed as we all walked towards them.
"Stepsister. I mean, still not okay. I know that" mom told everyone.
"What? No, no, wait, he's just a little confused, all right?" Dad told Roger.
"It's no surprise when you look at who raised him" Roger said, D already pushing me back before I could step forward.
"Adrianna, come on, we're going home" Roger said, walking to the exit with Adrianna next to him.
"Wait, wait, Roger, you can't go out in that storm" Brad said, making Roger scoff. "I was an alternate for season three Ice Road Truckers. I'll be fine"
"I got this" dad told Brad before walking towards Roger and Adrianna.
"Wait a minute, Roger, hold up, man" dad stopped him. "No. From now on, I don't want you anywhere near my daughter" Roger exclaimed.
"I don't want anything to do with any of you people!" He exclaimed, looking back at us.
"Look, I never wanted to be family with you, either, Roger. Just like Brad never wanted to be family with me, did you, Brad?" Dad asked Brad, making Brad agree with him.
"No, not at all. I hated your guts. In fact, I still kind of do right now" Brad shrugged.
"Yeah, me too, Brad" dad told him. "But we're all connected by these kids. No one's going anywhere" dad told Roger.
"You gonna stop me?" Roger asked, walking closer towards dad, trying to intimidate him. "If I have to, yes" dad responded.
"Yeah, right, you couldn't stop a clock, you weak tit" Adrianna told dad, making me raise my eyebrows.
"Let your dad handle it" D whispered before I could say anything.
"You know what, Adrianna?" Dad asked, lowering to her level. "You're not gonna like this, young lady, but this is long overdue. I love you"
"That got me" "Got me too" both Brad and Don started crying. "For fucks sakes" I rolled my eyes at them.
"What the hell did you just say?" Roger asked dad. "You heard me. I said, I love my stepdaughter like my own daughter! And I meant it. I should've said it a long time ago, but I was afraid to put myself out there and risk getting rejected" dad responded.
"You know what? Adrianna, you're gonna spend Christmas with your mom, okay?" Roger told Adrianna, handing her her coat.
"You're not leaving us, Roger" dad stopped Roger from leaving.
"Because I love you too" he told Roger. "You take that back!" Roger exclaimed, making dad shake his head.
"Everybody head it. It's out there" das told him.
"Everybody hear it?" Dad asked everyone, making almost the whole theater nod.
"You're her dad, you made her who she is and despite her currently harboring a fair amount of resentment towards me. I love her, so that means I love you, too"
"And I love everyone here, even Angel's boyfriend" dad said, making D smile a bit.
Roger sniffled before hugging dad, all of us awing at the two.
The rest of the day was spent singing Christmas songs and celebrating Christmas in a movie theater.
It wasn't the Christmas I wanted, but by the look of D smiling, it made it even better.
