"Here, turkey, turkey, turkey" Megan chanted as we were all walking in the woods, Megan with a gun in hand as we looked around for a turkey.
"Be patient, sweetheart. The decoys are right around the corner" dad told her. "This is nice, huh? Dust?" Grandpa told dad. "You and me, fresh air. Just like old times"
"What do you mean like old times? You only took me once, dad" dad responded, furrowing his eyebrows at grandpa.
"Jeez, I don't know. Are you sure this is a good idea, Sara?" Don asked mom, looking at Megan carefully.
"Megan is a strong, independent woman" mom began. "If she wants to help thin the wild turkey population so that they don't starve to death in the winter, that is her right by the second amendment"
We all stood behind Megan, who had a clear view of three turkeys, her already pointing the gun at one.
"Boy, you bought into that real quick. I mean, I think for Megan, this is less about wildlife conservation and more about bloodlust" Brad responded.
"Looks like somebody picked the wrong day to be a turkey" Megan mumbled, still keeping an eye on that one turkey.
"Keep your elbows down and cradle the stock, okay" grandpa instructed.
"Yeah, I get it. Can I shoot the damn thing or not?" Megan asked, turning around and raising an eyebrow at grandpa, making me chuckle.
"Yeah, that's the spirit" grandpa nodded at her.
"Take a deep breath" dad instructed. "And then squeeze that trigger as you're letting it out"
"Megan, are you sure this is what you want to do?" Brad asked, stepping towards her like an idiot.
"Can you shut the fuck up?" I asked Brad at the same time Megan sushes him. "Let's name it. She's not gonna kill it if it has a name" Don suggested.
"Yes! Gertrude!" Sam? Tom? Billie Holiday! No. Elijah!" The both yelled at the same time.
"Elijah, run home!" Brad yelled, making the turkey run towards us. "Stand your ground, kid" grandpa told her. "Focus, Megan" I told her, hoping Brad and Don didn't make her lose her focus.
"Take the shot, kid" grandpa said as the turkey came closer and closer. "Shoot, Megan"I said before she got freaked out by the turkey, letting it run past us.
Oh shit.
She shot grandpa.
"Dad!" Dad quickly walked over to grandpa, making sure his arm was okay.
"Oh my god, honey, are you okay?" Mom ran towards Megan, who was laying on the ground, shocked by the turkey.
"Kurt! Are you alright?" Brad asked him as grandpa laid in the snow, blood seeping into his sleeve.
"I'm okay, she just winged me" grandpa groaned a little. "I'm sorry, el padre! I'm sorry"Megan quickly ran towards him. "That's okay, kid. I've been shot worse than this plenty of times" grandpa told her as she began having tears in her eyes.
I looked to the side and saw two turkeys running past us. Fuck this shit. I grabbed the gun from Megan's hands and pointed it at the wild running turkeys, shooting them both right in the middle, making everyone stop talking and looking in my direction.
"Wow. Two for two" grandpa said impressed. "Women kill, men cook" I told him, dropping the gun in the snow beside him.
"Excuse me, what's your wifi password?" I asked the lady at the front desk, who raised an eyebrow at me. "It's on that wall" she sighed, pointing to one of the white hospital walls. I basically ran.
Before I could type in the password, my phone started ringing, making an unknown number pop up on the screen.
Pressing the green button, I pressed the phone against my ear before speaking. "What?" I sighed annoyed.
"Angel" my heart skipped a beat as soon as I heard his voice. "D! Oh my god! I've been trying to call you. I've called like a thousand times. I'm so sorry-" I rambled on, tears streaming down my cheeks as I was so happy he called me.
"Mom! It's Dylan!" I smiled at her as she looked shocked, but happy at the same time. "Babe, I'm so sorry, I should've never broken up with you. I'm a dumb bitch for putting my insecurities in your hands. I was a terrible girlfriend, I-"
"Baby, slow down" D chuckled, making my heart melt at his voice. "After I left, I stayed in a motel and then I went to the bus station to go back home and I got robbed. They stole my bag with everything in it. My phone, wallet, keys, everything Angel" he sighed, making me feel even more guilty, feeling like it was my fault.
"I didn't have any money to get on the bus or coins to make a call, and nobody wanted to give their phone. So I went to the police station and they let me call you" he finished his story.
"I'm so sorry, D" I whispered. "This was all my fault, I'm really sorry" I sniffled, slowly letting it all put again.
"Don't cry, baby" "I missed you so much" "I missed you too, mamas" I smiled at the nickname.
"Let's not fight over stupid shit anymore" I sighed, making D hum in agreement.
"From now on, we'll talk to eachother if something bothers us. No more secrets" he said, making me a little nervous. "No more secrets"
"Are you far from the house?" I asked him, as I still stood there by the wall, the others meanwhile waiting for grandpa to be released.
"Like an hour, maybe?" He said hesitantly, not really knowing the answer himself. "Where are you? I hear all these noises behind you" he asked me.
"The hospital" I sighed. "Shit, are you okay? What happened?" His tone changed, growing worried.
"I'm fine, don't worry. It's for grandpa. Long story short, Megan accidentally shot him in the arm when she was gonna shoot a turkey" I explained.
"So a lot of things happened when I was gone, huh?" D asked me, making me frown. "Yeah" I whispered. "I'm sorry, again, D. You didn't deserve this" I shook my head, again feeling tears in my eyes.
"Baby, it's okay. We'll talk about it later, okay? I'll make sure I can get to the house and we'll talk about it then, okay, baby" he suggested.
"But you don't have any money, how are you gonna get there?" I asked him confused.
"I'll figure it out, baby. Anything to be with you"
