We all stood outside, looking at Brad leaving

We all stood outside, looking at Brad leaving. "Hey, kids, why don't you go inside and put on your pajamas? You too, Angel" mom smiled softly at us.

"Come on" I picked up Megan and held Dylan's hand as we got inside.

"Is Brad ever gonna come back?" Dylan asked me as we walked up the stairs to their room. "I don't know, buddy" I sighed.

"Why did he drink so much?" Megan asked me. "I don't know, Megs" I responded putting her down on the ground.

"Change into your pajamas and brush your teeth, I'll come say goodnight when you guys are ready" I told them before leaving them to do their thing.

I heard the front door slam shut and went downstairs to see mom leaning against the door, tears in her eyes.

"Come on" I whispered and hugged her. She began crying in my shoulder, not letting me go. "I'll take the kids to school tomorrow. I'll ask D to come early and drop them off" I suggested.

"No, it's okay, your dad is bringing them to school tomorrow" she sniffed and broke the hug.

"Dad?" I raised an eyebrow at her. "Yeah" she nodded. "Dusty is taking care of Megan and Dylan?" I raised both my eyebrows in shock. "Yes, Angel" she sighed.

"Never knew this day would come" I told her. "Angel" she warned. "I'm gonna go to sleep, try to get some rest" I kissed mom's cheek before going up the stairs.

"Griff? What's up?" I answered the phone. "Can you go pick up Megan and Dylan from school?" is the first thing he says to me. I was sitting next to D in his car, still in the parking lot of school.

It's been four days since Brad left. The only thing that has been happening is mom being sad, dad trying to cheer her up and trying to be a family while Megan and Dylan act normal again.

But dad has been stressed these four days, I can see it.

"What happened? Did dad not pick them up?" I sighed. "No, he came by the bar earlier. He was talking about how he can't do the daddy thing" Griff explained making my heart drop and anger invade my mind.

"I tried to talk some sense into him but he seemed determined to get out of town" Griff told me. "Thanks" I said before hanging up.

"We need to pick up Megan and Dylan from school" I told Dylan while searching for dad's phone number in my phone.

"Yeah, sure" he quickly nodded before starting the car and making his way over there.

I clicked on his name, putting my phone next to my ear. The ringing continued. Voicemail.

"This is Dusty, leave a message after the beep"

Fuckin asshole

"Look, you can't just say to mom that you're gonna be a real father when you can't even handle four fuckin days being a parent. What the fuck is wrong with you? So you're just gonna leave? You're just gonna leave Megan and Dylan like that?"
