Hermione's Early B-Day Gift

Andromeda's POV

So it's the last day of the school holidays. Harry, the Weasleys and Hermione are at the Leaky Cauldron. I convinced my mum to let me go hang out with them. Dad is away at a business meet and Draco is at Theo's house. Anyway I told mum it was Hermione's birthday and how I wanted to get her a pet. So she gave me a pouch with around twenty galleons inside. I thanked her with a big hug before flooing to the Leaky Cauldron.

I spot Ron and Hermione heading for Diagon Alley. I dusted myself off and followed them. I find them talking to Harry outside the ice-cream parlor. "Hermione!" I cheer hugging her from behind.

"Andy!" she shouts happily. Turning around and returning the hug. "What are you doing here?" she asks me.

"Spending the day with you all of course and buying you an early birthday present" I state.

"Hi Andy" the boys says.

"Hey Harry, Ron" I say.

"An early present?" Hermione asks.

"Yeah, I feel terrible that I'll be leaving you alone with the boys this year. So thought I'd buy you a pet, you can choose which ever one you want. But you aren't paying a knut for it" I tell her.

"Really?" she asks excited.

"Wait" Harry says.

"You're not coming to Hogwarts this year?" Ron asks confused.

"Oh yeah I forgot to tell you two" I state. "I'm going to another school this year as an exchange student. But will be back next year, I trust you both to take care of Hermione in my absence" I tel them.

"Of course" Harry assures me.

"Are you going to the magical menagerie?" Ron asks.

"Yes, why?" I ask him.

"I was going to take Scabbers there for a check up, he hasn't been looking so good since my family returned from Egypt" he states.

"Then lets go" I tell them. "So Hermione, any idea what sort of pet you want?" I ask her. As we set off for the magical menagerie.

"Well I don't fancy a toad, maybe an owl. Harry has Hedwig and Ron has Errol" Hermione says.

"I haven't, Errol's a family owl. All I've got is Scabbers" Ron corrects her. We roll our eyes.

"Though a cat wouldn't be bad either" Hermione adds.

"You can look at owls and cats, then decide which you want. But I'm paying for everything" I tell her. She nods her head as we enter the store. Hermione and I go to look at owls. While Harry went with Ron to have Scabbers checked.

"Hmm, I don't know Andy. None of these are catching my attention" Hermione tells me.

"Maybe a cat" I suggest.

"Maybe" she agrees. We head for the front of the store. When we hear a commotion.

"NO, CROOKSHANKS, NO!" we hear a witch shout. We soon hear Ron shouts Scabbers' name and see him run out of the shop with Harry. We head to the counter to see the owner of the shop holding a cat.

"What was that about?" I ask.

"Crookshanks here, decided to try attack that boy's ill rat" the witch states. As she sets the cat down on the counter. "Which is odd as he has never attacked any of the animals here" she sates. As Hermione pats Crookshanks, who purrs happily.

"He's gorgeous" she states.

"Is he available for adoption?" I ask the witch.

"Yes, poor boy has been here for ages. No one has wanted him" she states.
