Lead up to First Task

Andromeda's POV

The school is in shock of Harry's name coming out of the Goblet.  It's been divided. Both Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff hate Harry now. The Gryffindors are overjoyed one of the Hogwarts champions is a gryffindor. And Slytherin is just loving all the chaos. Where as the Durmstrang and Beauxbaton students are upset that Hogwarts has two champions and they only have one each. Though they aren't making to much of a big deal about it.

The day after the champions were announced. Hermione and I took Harry on a walk around the lake with some toast. Ron didn't come as he believes Harry put his name into the Goblet, as does every other student. But Hermione and I trust Harry when he says he didn't. Hermione convinced Harry to write to Sirius and we went to the owlery. I assured him I'd known about Sirius all summer and have not told a soul. Though I would like to meet my estranged cousin.

A couple days after that my brother decided to taunt Harry. He even tried to curse Harry and was turned into a ferret by Professor Moody. Then bounced around like a yoyo. Once he was human again I escorted him to the hospital wing with Blaise.

"I thought you didn't care" he grumbled.

"You're my twin brother Draco, I'll always care about you and mum" I tell him. "I just couldn't stay in the same house as dad after what he did" I whisper. "But I still love you and mum" I state.

"He disowned you" he tells me.

"I know" I tell him. "If you ever need a study buddy, I'm here" I tell him. He nods his head. "I'll leave you to rest, I have homework to do" I state. I kiss his cheek. "Get well soon brother" I tell him and left. Things were better between us after that, but still not what they were.

A week and half before the first task Mr Ollivander game to Hogwarts. Along with a reporter and photographer from the Daily Prophet. Mr Ollivander tested all the wands from each champion and declared them fine to use in the tournament. An article was done about the champions and their photo was taken. The reporter wanted to interview me, the disowned Malfoy. But Dumbledore refused to give her permission and I ignored her letters. Especially after seeing what she had written about Harry in her article on the champions.

Anyway, I got a letter from Tonks. She wanted to introduce me to a friend of her's and she got permission to come to Hogwarts. We meet in the entrance hall and leave the castle together. She lead me to the forbidden forest. Where I smelt smoke and could hear roars.

We entered a clearing to see four dragons in cages with eggs. Surrounded by several teams of dragon tamers. "Tonks, glad you could make it" a guy with long red hair says and approaches us. "You must be Andy, Ginny has told me all about you. Charlie Weasley" he says holding his hand out to me.

"Nice to meet you" I say shaking his hand. "How do you two know each other?" I ask them.

"We were in the same year, different houses though" Tonks tells me with a shrug.

"She was always getting in trouble" Charlie tells me. "Oh the stories I could tell you" he says chuckling.

"Hey, you got into trouble too" Tonks retorts.

"So why are we here?" I ask them curious. "I take these dragons are connected to the first task" I add gesturing to them.

"They are" Charlie says nodding his head. "But it's a secret" he tells me with a wink. "Anyway, Tonks told me you liked dragons and I thought I'd do her a favour" he states. "Can you tell what sorts we have here?" he asks me. I look at the dragons.

"Horn-tail, Chinese Fire-ball, Welsh Green and Swedish short-snout" I state.

"Very good" he says with a smile. "Want to help us care for them?" he asks and I look at him surprised. "Got permission from Dumbledore and McGonagall" he tells me.

"I figured it'd help you decide about what career you want in future" Tonks tells me. "I know you are tossing up between dragon tamer and healer. So this will give you a chance to see if dragon taming is the right career for you" she states. "Madame Pomfrey has also offered to take you on as an apprentice during the duration of the tournament" she adds.

"Wow, you're the best cousin ever!" I cheer hugging her. "Thank you" I tell her.

"Don't mention it" she tells me. "Anyway, I am gonna go see my old mentor and leave you in the capable hands of Charlie" she states. I nod my head and she left.

"Ok first things first, I got to tell you the safety procedures and rules" Charlie tells me. "Along with give you a tour" he adds. So we set off and he starts the tour. Pointing out the other dragon tamers and telling me their names. Telling me the names of the dragons and what to watch out for. Why they needed mother dragons with eggs for the task. I feel sorry for whoever gets the Horn-tail, she seems to be the most aggressive of the lot.

So on the lead up to the first task I had a pretty full on schedule. What with helping with the dragons on my breaks. Learning simple healing charms and helping Madame Pomfrey out in the hospital wing. Not to mention all my lessons and homework. So I had very little free time and I felt bad leaving Hermione to deal with Harry & Ron. And not being able to spend more time with all my friends. But once the dragons leave, my schedule will clear up a little.
