Andromeda's POV

Draco and I were given notes about our detention. We're going into the forbidden forest with Hagrid. Along with Neville, Harry and Hermione. Neville had snuck out and been caught. Harry and Hermione were caught by Filch on their way back to their common room. They had lost 150 points last night. The other Gryffindors were shocked to see they'd lost so many points and were confused about how they lost them all in one night. Draco was pleased at this development, until Snape delivered our detention letters.

Draco and I meet the other three in the entrance hall at eleven. Filch joins us and leads us outside the castle. "I bet you'll think twice about breaking a school rule again, won't you, eh?" he asks leering at us. "Oh yes. . . hard work and pain are the best teachers if you ask me. . . It's just a pity they let the old punishments die out. . . hang you by your wrists from the ceiling for a few days, I've got the chains still in my office, keep 'em well oiled in case they're ever needed" he explains.

I roll my eyes, Dumbledore would never bring back those punishments. We march across the dark grounds together. The moon was bright, but clouds scudding across it kept throwing them into darkness. Ahead, I can see the light windows of Hagrid's hut. Then we heard a distant shout.

"Is that you, Filch? Hurry up, I want ter get started" Hagrid shouts.

"I suppose you think you'll be enjoying yourself with that oaf? Well, think again, boy -- it's into the forest you're going and I'm much mistaken if you'll all come out in one piece" Filch tells Harry. Who looked happy at detention with Hagrid.

At this, Neville let out a little moan, and Draco stopped dead in his tracks. "The forest? We can't go in there at night -- there's all sorts of things in there -- werewolves, I heard" he states. Neville clutched the sleeve of Harry's robe and made a choking noise.

"Oh relax, it's not a full moon" I tell him.

"Should've thought of them werewolves before you got in trouble, shouldn't you?" Filch asks my brother. Hagrid came striding toward them out of the dark, Fang at his heel. He was carrying his large crossbow, and a quiver of arrows hung over his shoulder.

"I bin waitin' fer half an hour already. All right, Harry, Hermione, Andy?" he asks us. We nod our heads.

"I wouldn't be too friendly to them, Hagrid. They're here to be punished, after all" Filch tells him.

"Bin lecturin' them, eh? 'Snot your place ter do that. Yeh've done yer bit, I'll take over from here" Hagrid tells him.

"I'll be back at dawn, for what's left of them" Filch states before leaving. Draco turns to Hagrid.

"I'm not going in that forest and neither is my sister" he states.

"Oh yes we are" I tell him annoyed.

"Yeh've done wrong an' now yeh've got ter pay fer it" Hagrid adds.

"But this is servant stuff, it's not for students to do. I thought we'd be copying lines or something, if my father knew I was doing this, he'd..." Draco whines.

"Tell yer that's how it is at Hogwarts" I finish. "Stop being such a baby Draco" I tell him in a harsh whisper.

"Copyin' lines! What good's that ter anyone? Yeh'll do summat useful or yeh'll get out. If yeh think yer father'd rather you were expelled, then get back off ter the castle an' pack. Go on" Hagrid tells him. Draco doesn't move and drops his gaze. I grab his hand.

"We'll be fine bro" I assure him.

"Right then. Now, listen carefully, 'cause it's dangerous what we're gonna do tonight, an' I don' want no one takin' risks. Follow me over here a moment" Hagrid instructs. He led us to the very edge of the forest. Holding his lamp up high, he pointed down a narrow, winding earth track that disappeared into the thick black trees. A light breeze lifted our hair as we looked into the forest.

"Look there, see that stuff shinin' on the ground? Silvery stuff? That's unicorn blood. There's a unicorn in there bin hurt badly by summat. This is the second time in a week. I found one dead last Wednesday. We're gonna try an' find the poor thing. We might have ter put it out of its misery" he explains.

"Oh the poor creature" I say. Who would dear to hurt a unicorn?

"And what if whatever hurt the unicorn finds us first?" Draco asks squeezing my hand tightly. Unable to keep the fear out of his voice.

"There's nothin' that lives in the forest that'll hurt yeh if yer with me or Fang. An' keep ter the path. Right, now, we're gonna split inter two parties an' follow the trail in diff'rent directions. There's blood all over the place, it must've bin staggerin' around since last night at least" Hagrid explains.

"I want Fang" Draco states.

"All right, but I warn yeh, he's a coward. So me, Harry, an' Hermione'll go one way an' Draco, Neville, Andy an' Fang'll go the other. Now, if any of us finds the unicorn, we'll send up green sparks, right? Get yer wands out an' practice now -- that's it -- an' if anyone gets in trouble, send up red sparks, an' we'll all come an' find yeh -- so, be careful -- let's go" he explains.

I grab a lantern and lead the boys down the opposite trail with Fang beside me. "I'm sorry you were dragged into this Neville. I was to by my idiot brother" I tell him.

"I'm just glad you're here with us, I don't want to be alone with him" he tells me.

"Don't worry, Draco may act tough. But he'd just as scared as you are of this forest" I tell him.

"At least you're here, the other three told us what happened Halloween night with the troll. You are really powerful" he states.

"Thank you for the compliment, but honestly I have no idea where it came from" I tell him. "I just knew I had to protect my friend" I explain. I look around and notice Draco is gone. "Hey have you..." I start to ask when Draco jumps out in front of us scaring Neville. Who shots red sparks into the air. "Seriously Draco!" I snap glaring at my twin.

"Oh come on, it was funny" he says chuckling. Hagrid appears and takes us back to the others after I explained what had happened. He made new teams. Neville and I would go with him and Hermione. While Harry went with Draco and Fang.

"I'm sorry Draco wasted time Hagrid" I tell him as we continue our search for the injured unicorn.

"It's fine, he won't be able to scare Harry so easily" he assures me. About twenty minutes later Draco appears screaming bloody murder. He explained how he and Harry had found the unicorn. Along with the thing attacking and we all run off in the direction he had come from. Hermione and I burst into a clearing with see Harry talking to a centaur.

"Harry, are you alright?" we ask him.

"I'm fine" he assures us. "The unicorn's dead, Hagrid, it's in that clearing back there" he states. Hagrid goes to see it leaving us with the centaur.

"Harry Potter, this is where I leave you. You are safe now" the centaur states. "Good luck, Harry Potter. The planets have been read wrongly before now, even by centaurs. I hope this is one of those times" he tells him. He turned and cantered back into the depths of the forest. Hagrid returns and takes us back to the castle. Draco and I go straight to our dorms to sleep.
