Chapter 47
"You saw Zale fall into the water yes?" Chiron stood in his centaur form with his arms folded and face stern.
Thanatos stood in the corner of the room, as if one with the shadows. She wouldn't have known that he was even there if it wasn't for his golden eyes, piercing through her.
She nodded slightly, avoiding the pair of eyes on her. She had already explained everything that happened when Poseidon met her in the forest, and yet here Chiron was, still trying to make sense of it all and arrange the puzzle pieces together. But she had already lost hope, and since Thanatos was still there, that didn't ease her mind.
What more did he want?
"Do you feel any different?" Chiron asked suddenly breaking the silence.
Priya looked up at him confused. "Different? I killed him, Chiron!"
"But you saved everyone else. The monsters that were here- that we stood no chance against- disappeared."
"Yet he's still gone."
"He fell into the water, Priya. Your father, he promised that if you did this, he would protect Jay, did he not?" She nodded, wiping the tear that had slid down her face. She couldn't cry in front of him. Not when she was supposed to be one of camp's greatest warriors and not when Thanatos stood there in his beauty, as if he wasn't the one to reap Jay's soul.
His soul-
"Is he dead? Had he entered the doors of death yet?" He turned to face Thanatos but his face was still neutral and his eyes piercing into her.
"Did he?" She shouted a bit, as if he didn't hear her, instead of ignoring her.
"You know he can't answer that," Chiron said calmly, and Priya scoffed at his tone, but also admired his ability to keep calm in the midst of chaos.
"Trust your father Priya."
And that was the problem.
Maybe for a little while after the incident she had, and that was how the water was able to heal her. But now?
She had yelled at him, and was hellbent on not doing it. Yet she had. So how was he supposed to know her change of plans?
How was he supposed to save Jay?If the stab wound didn't kill him, and Poseidon didn't use his powers to shield him, then the impact of falling from over 100 feet would've.
When she hadn't replied, or even looked at him, he got down to her eye level and making sure she was watching him. "If the sea nymphs don't find his body, then I will allow you and Percy to go outside the borders of the water to search."
And her heart flipped for just a second until she heard the small 'but' that followed it.
"But, you will need to report to me first, and only then will I decide if both of you are in good health to go."
She nodded slowly, and he got up as she did, and she rushed out before her tears could fall.
If Poseidon didn't save him, and he really was dead- then she owed him the favour of finding his body and having a proper funeral for him.
"Priya!" She heard her brother's voice call out from the bottom of the stairs. He looked the same as he did, with his black messy hair, and sea green eyes, not a bruise in sight.
Nico and Annabeh leaned on opposite sides, against the railing of the stairs, a few feet behind him.
Nico, in his usual black attire and his Stygian iron dagger at his side- He looked pale and tired, even more than usual.
Annabeth had a bandage on her upper arm, and a few bruises on her face, but she seemed healthy or at least strong enough to stand.
Priya tried to avoid looking at the covered bodies on the ground, and instead focused on her brother in front of her.
