Chapter 33

After the introduction, Sarah paced herself again, Percy and I trying to catch up. We walked for what seemed like hours, taking a right, then left, two more rights until finally we stopped on the beginning of a dark, narrow street, where the buildings looked abandoned and dilapidated.

Percy and I exchanged glances as Sarah walked inside the street, turned abruptly and stopped in front of a small burgundy door. We followed her as she knocked.
"Priya? It's me. Please open the door," Sarah called, waiting.
Minutes had passed and still there was no answer. Sarah stuck her hands into her bag and pulled out a golden key, which she used to unlock the door.

We entered through the door, and closing it behind me, and looked around. A small bed lay on the side of the room, and with a small tv, table and sofa in front of it. I looked over, to see her bag resting on the table, half open and the door that stood in front of us, slightly ajar. Sarah walked forward, towards the open door, which I assumed was a bathroom and called for Priya again.

As she called out, something silvery in the corner of the room caught my eye, just in time for me to pull out my sword, Percy doing the same. Priya launched at us, swinging her sword, as Percy and I blocked hoping not to injure her.
Sarah ran out of the bathroom and to the side of us, yelling at Priya to stop. Eventually after a few minutes she did.
Percy and I replaced out swords and sat next to each other on the sofa, while Priya and Sarah were in the bathroom.

"We need to get her back to camp, Jay," Percy said, looking around at the small apartment that we were in.
"I know. She looks so tired and weak, but we can't go back to everyone when she's like that," I replied.
"We should. Chiron will know what to do with her. He always does," Percy said.

Priya walked out, and sat on the bed opposite us. Her light brown hair, was dishevelled and messy. Her once powerful sea green eyes, now held a bit of fear and anxiety in them, looking sunken and tired. The tall frame of her body, although still healthy, was marked with cuts and bruises.
Percy and I stared at her as Sarah sat next to her. I looked at Percy and then back at Priya, unaware of what to say, or how to react. She was finally here, in front of me, although she seemed distant.
Percy leaned forward, his hands on his knees, and looked at Priya.

"Priya? It's me, Percy, your bother. Remember?" Percy whispered, not wanting to startle her. Priya gave no indication that she was even listening to what he was saying, yet he continued. "Remember when you first came to camp and got claimed? How happy I was that I finally had a sister? How I trained you in the arena? Although you didn't need much help? We went on quests together. We started the tradition of the camp's lakeside party ever year? Priya, please tell me that you remember this," Percy said, his voice slightly breaking, but he was still determined for her to acknowledge it.

Sarah placed her hand softly on Priya's back and she looked up at Percy. Her eyes were now dark, opposing Percy's bright green ones. She nodded and Percy sighed. He looked over at me, and motioned for me to introduce myself. How was I supposed to introduce myself when I didn't know what to say?

"I'm Jay, your best friend. We were inseparable. The troublemakers of the camp most times. Remember when you taught me how to swim? Or the time we rode on the hippocampi around the lake? Or when you and Percy found me outside camp and brought me in?" I said, stopping myself before I could go on.

Priya looked up and nodded at us both, before returning to looking down at her fingers. Percy looked across me with a confused look and I looked back at him and shook my head side to side, gently. I knew what he was thinking and no I wasn't going to mention to her that we were more than just best friends. The truth is that I don't even know what we are anymore. All I want is for her to return back to home safely. Not Brooklyn but Camp Half-blood because that's where our home is.

Priya looked up at me and then towards Percy.

"I know who you are. Both of you. I just need some time alone to figure things out," Priya said, determined.
"I know that. Trust me I do. With everything that you've been through, it's only fair. But it's not safe for you out here Priya. You need to go back to camp. Demigods, especially you and me, children of Poseidon give off a greater scent than others. We attract more monsters to us," Percy reminded her.
"Poseidon met me, and he's not as great as you make him out to be. He only healed me so that I could go on a quest for him and fix one of his mistakes," Priya replied, coldly.
"You met dad?" Percy said, interestingly. "What did he say?"
"He said that he had a job for me and that I was the only one he could ask. So I asked him why he couldn't ask you, since well... that happens to be more your thing. And he just said that it had to be me and that he was willing to train me so that I'd be strong enough," Priya replied.

Percy gulped and then looked at me nervously.
"Priya, if you return to camp with us and stay there, I'll help you with whatever it is that dad wants you to do. Gods, I'll even talk to him and tell him that I'm willing to do it, once you're safe," Percy said, standing up and adjusting his bag straps.
Priya looked up at him. " I don't know what to do Percy. He's my father but I don't know how to help him in whatever this quest is supposed to be. I just need help," she said, wrapping her arms around his shoulder suddenly.
Percy closed his eyes and hugged her back.

She pulled away and looked at me. I now stood up and looked back at her just as she pulled me in for a hug. I wrapped my arms tightly around her, for the first time in months.

The three of us looked over at Sarah and she stared back at us.
"Maybe you should get going before that other guy finds you," Sarah said finally, breaking the silence. Priya smiled, for the first time since we've been here and rushed over to the bathroom to pack her stuff.

"Make sure she gets to camp safely, Jay. Make sure she's alright," Sarah said softly, hugging me.
She turned to Percy. "Please keep being there for her. I'm so grateful that she has a brother there. Thank you for looking out for my girl," Sarah said, hugging Percy.

Priya exited the bathroom, in the pastel green leather jacket and her backpack on her shoulders. She looked at the bracelet with a wave charm for a long time, before finally putting it on her wrist.

I can't imagine that she had ever taken it off before now since it was gifted to her by Poseidon himself. Just as Percy had his pen riptide that could change into his sword when uncapped, Priya has this bracelet.

It was specially designed to change into her sword once she tapped the wave on it. Obviously I've tried to change it but somehow it only works when she touches it.

Sarah walked over to her and hugged her. They said their goodbyes and Priya whispered a small thank you to her mother and soon we were in a taxi out of Brooklyn and headed back to camp.

We encountered no monsters on the way which Percy found weird, considering there were 2 children of Poseidon in the small place and a son of Aphrodite. Nevertheless, we walked up the hills towards Camp Half-Blood and Priya stopped suddenly at the entrance, causing Percy and I to almost bump into her.

I looked at her and could see that she was still debating whether to enter or not, whilst looking at the pillars.
Percy held her left hand and I held her right, leading her closer to the barriers.

We passed the Pine tree in which the borders of camp started. The same tree that Thalia Grace, daughter of Zeus was turned into when she died.

We walked past Thalia's tree, holding Priya who winced as she passed through it. We staggered into the camp and immediately caught the stares of nearby campers. We walked further in and soon, all eyes were in us.

Everyone dashed in different directions, which Percy and I assumed was their effort to find and notify Chiron. Others stared at us and returned to their normal doings, still glancing trying not make it obvious.
