BAU Privet Jet Virginia
The entire trip back to Virginia and even once Zoey boarded the plane she couldn't help but wonder if she made the right decision giving Jay her hotel key in the first place. I mean why was she so worried? It's not like the detective would actually fly out here to visit her! Would he? She asked herself lost in thought.
"Hey, Severide how was your trip home?" Reid asked boarding the jet first followed by Morgan and JJ. "Short-lived," the blonde replied with a sigh as Morgan sat at the table across from her. "You and lover boy have a fun night?" Morgan asks as JJ passed her a case file. "Why makes you think we did more than have drinks?" Severide asks as Prentiss and Rossi board the plane. "Weren't you wearing that when you left last night?" was all Prentiss asked joining the conversation. "Oh and your hairs still a mess," Morgan adds. "okay, Okay. Maybe he did spend the night. So what?" The blonde asked. "You're getting defensive..." Reid pointed out while his eyes glanced up at Zoey before returning to the file in hand.
"Why don't you go for it Severide, you're clearly into him," Morgan said causing the blonde to sigh. "Why does everyone keep saying that?" she asked more rhetorically. "Because anyone with eyes and a brain could see you both instantly had a connection if you will even when we worked with Chicago's Intelligence unit on that case," Reid said earning a look. "And I also said I'm giving up dating for a while," Severide said as she opened the case file to reveal a mass murder in a gas station. Multiple victims, No Survivors, Now witnesses' and no security footage. Some victims had multiple gunshot wounds indicating the shooter or more likely shooters were trigger happy. It looked like the beginning of a spree killing, something that never ended well.
Zoey closed the case noticing all eyes were on her until Hotch walked onto the flight and the jet took off almost instantly. It didn't take long for the team to brief the case going over what they got sent as the team flew to Montana.
Billings Montana
Once the flight landed the team ended up getting sent to a gas station the shooters blew up on the time it took the team to get there. The building was charded and still on fire as they stepped out of the car The team got informed that the shooters were one male and one female. The team looked around at the debris from the explosion.
Zoey walked around before she notice a burn pattern the same one she saw when she helped CFD hunt down the arsonist that killed Shay. "Hey check this out," Severide said as she followed the burn pattern across the road beginning at a cigarette butt. "This is what caused the explosion," the blonde said as the team walked over. "The shooters used the gas as an accelerant to torch the place. "Hey look tire tracks," Morgan pointed out as they began taking photos and collecting evidence.
14 casualties between this gas station and the last one, "This is definitely an escalation," Severide said looking at the team who had the same worried looks. "Maybe if find the tire tread and match it to the car we might be able to figure out what they're driving," Morgan said.
"Male-female teams are usually committed to pleasing each other, both mentally and physically," Prentiss said looking at the building that was still smoking and had flames still burning. "These guys are thrill killers, they're aroused by the adrenaline rush. So they're not gonna stop until we catch them." Morgan said. "So this is just foreplay," Rossi said,
As the investigation went on the team realized they were looking for a modern-day Bonnie & Clyde. The way they would violently smash some of the victim's skulls, the coroner thought some of the victims looked like they had their heads smashed by a train.
After a day of digging the team uncovered that the shooters had met at an AA group and shared similar backgrounds that they both bonded over. The agents also revealed that the unsubs were molested as kids and they discovered that after one of the unsubs had already shot their father.
It didn't take Garcia long to find who the shooters were and track down both parents. The team split up going to both addresses hoping to stop them before they could strike again. Morgan and Severide ended up heading to a family gas station owned by the female shooter's father. The moment they arrived Morgan took the front of the building while Zoey went around back.
Severide carefully entered the back of the gas station when she heard yelling coming from the front of the store. It didn't take long for the sound of gunshots to ring through the air sending the blonde in the direction. A woman rounded the corner and Zoey shot hitting the female shooter in the neck dropping her to the floor.
Zoey went to kick her gun away disarming the shooter, "SEVERIDE WATCH OUT" Morgan yelled causing the blonde to duck behind a wall as a bullet flew past her hitting the wall next to her. As Zoey went around the corner she could smell the faint fumes of Gasoline. "Morgan, I can smell gas back here," Severide said through her earpiece as she watched the man with a gun rounded the corner smoking a cigarette. "Morgan get out now, IT'S GONNA BLOW" Severide yelled as she sprinted to the backdoor watching the man smile as the cigarette fell from his hand towards the ground that was soaked in gasoline.
The moment Morgan heard Severide tell him to get out the agent fled the building making it outside as the entire building combusted into flames, and the flames hit the fuel lines causing massive booming explosions of smoke and fire. "SEVERIDE? SEVERIDE!" Morgan began yelling as the faint sound of sirens began wailing in the distance, the agent scanned the area for his blonde partner as panic and worry hit him.
