Chapter 11

BAU Privet Jet 

Zoey sat on the plane lost in thoughts when her mind wandered to the letter she found on her apartment door. The blonde ripped the envelope open to find a small note with writing on it. 

'You think you won, but the games only just begun' 

What the hell? Zoey thought as she heard some of the team boarding the jet, she put the note back in her duffle bag a bit confused. It was probably some kid in the building playing a stupid prank or a prank war going on at the firehouse that Kelly brought home. "Hey Superwoman, how are you feeling after last night?" Morgan asked his partner the moment he boarded the plane followed by the rest of the team. "I'm good," Severide replied simply as Morgan sat across from her. Usually, she'd make a sarcastic remark or statement. 

Zoey didn't know what to tell them and now she felt guilty about the entire night, scratch that the last month every time she came home she'd get drunk and she was pregnant. "What's that look for?" Morgan asks with concern in his voice as Zoey's stomach turned and she stood up bolting past Reid and into the bathroom before she started throwing up in the toilet. 

After a few moments, Severide reappeared from the bathroom returning to her seat. "I'm never drinking with you guys again," she said with a groan earning a small round of laughter from the team. However, their smile dropped when JJ handed out a file to each member of the team. "Missing 10-year-old girl, Home invasion. Parents were killed in their sleep." Hotch said causing everyone's smiles to drop. "Where are we on the time stamp?" Rossi asked. "6 Hours" Hotch replied as the team began briefing on the case. 

"This is Geoff and Nacy Hail, Both their throats were cut in their sleep," JJ said as the crime scene photos of the dead parents appeared on the screens in the Jet. "Any evidence of abuse?" Morgan asked. "Nothing," JJ replied, "Slitting someone's throat is quick and efficient," Reid said. "that's because the real target was down the hall," Severide said softly. 

Cases with kids were always hard on the team but with the pregnancy hormones, this case somehow felt worse. Zoey's mind began to wonder about how the hell she would tell Jay that she was pregnant and he's the father. "Is there an amber alert out?" Rossi asked, pulling Severide from her thoughts and back to the urgent case on hand.  "Yea since 7 am this morning" JJ answered. " With the unsubs head start, he could be anywhere within a 400-mile radius, make sure they're casting a wide enough net," Hotch said. 

"Who discovered the bodies?" Morgan asked, "Jim Scheuen, Cate's biological father, he was supposed to take her for the weekend. The police don't consider him a suspect" JJ said. "we'll need to talk to him anyways," Hotch said. "We're also gonna need a list of registered sex offenders, in a 20-mile radius" Prentiss adds. "What is the makeup of the Hail's neighbourhood?" Reid asked. "Mostly white and middle class" JJ replied. "We'll need arile views of the neighbourhood," Morgan said. "Severide you and Morgan go to the crime scene, The rest of us will get up to speed at the precint," Hotch said as the flight began to land. 

Hail Residence Springfield Illinois 

"So are you gonna tell me why you've been so off or do I gotta drag it outta you?" Morgan asked.. "I'm fine Morgan just hungover," the blonde replied trying her best not to sound pissy with him. "We've been working together for 3 years, Severide I've seen you hung over and you're not like this. Talk to me superwoman" Morgan said as they walked up the driveway towards the house. "I got a call from the doctor that checked me over at Chicago med" Severide started to say. "Everything okay?" he asked pausing to look at her. "Yea he just called me to tell me that there was something odd about my blood panel and... I'm pregnant," she said closing her eyes as the words came out shaky. "Wow, um congratula- Derek don't please," Zoey said cutting him off as tears started to fall from her eyes. 

Morgan was confused for a moment but pulled the blonde into a hug. "It's gonna be okay superwoman, what did lover boy say?" he asks as she started crying a little more. "I haven't told him," she said sniffling as she let go of the embrace. "So... are you planning on telling him?" Morgan asks as Severide and he continued looking around. "I- What would I even say? Hey I know we've been fucking around for like a month and a half and we finally just started dating but hey I'm having you, baby. Because that doesn't make men run" Zoey said scoffing. "Zoey, if he runs away from the responsibility A) he's not a man and B) I'll hunt him down and kick his ass," Morgan said pulling her into a hug. "Give him the opportunity, he could really surprise you. He seems like a really caring and protective person" Morgan adds. 

It didn't take the team long to discover they were looking for multiple unsubs based on the crime scene and the Autopsy. It didn't take the team additionally that Cate has epilepsy and the unsub's didn't take her medication with them. Not to mention as Reid pointed out the primary cause of seizures is stress. The team scrambled now hoping they could find this girl before it was too late. 

Zoey stood staring at the victimology board when Morgan came into the room. "Hey, they found the kid she's okay, Hotch wants us to meet him at the hospital," her partner said as she instantly turned on her feet heading for the door followed by morgan shortly after. It didn't take the agents long to arrive at the hospital meeting Hotch and Reid. "Severide maybe it's best if you try talking with her to see what she can remember," Hotch suggested. "Sure," the blonde said, "I have to warn with seizures often come retrograde amnesia she might have holes in her memory," the doctor said looking at Zoey before she walked into the trauma room. 

A 10-year-old girl was laying in the hospital bed and the sight brought slight pain to Zoey. Damn, hormones she thought as she walked over to the young girl's biological father. "Hello, Mr. Scheuren. My names is Agent Severide I was wondering if I had your permission to speak to your daughter?" the blonde asked him as he nodded. "Alone if possible?" she added and the man looked at her and his daughter nodding before he hesitantly left the room leaving her alone with Cate
