Chapter 13

Quantico Virginia, FBI Academy

3 weeks later...

It had been 3 weeks now since Severide found out she was pregnant and also since she broke down in her hotel room to Jay about the whole situation. The only people that knew about the pregnancy so far were Morgan, Jay and Will only because he told her she was with child. 

The blonde walked into the office still half asleep walking over to her desk setting her to go back down before taking a seat at her desk. Zoey had made it through the worst of her caffeine withdrawal and stopped drinking any caffeine the moment Will told her the news same with drinking and partying. 

"How are you feeling superwoman?" Morgan asked her, "exhausted, all the damn time," she muttered. "Day 21" was all Reid said from his desk, "What?" Severide asked confused looking towards him. "You haven't had an energy drink in 21 days," Reid said looking up, "Yea, I noticed that too, what's up with that? You live on those things" Prentiss said joining the conversation; noticing the change in the agent's behaviour over the last few weeks. 

Severide shrugged, "I don't need a heart attack by my next birthday," was all she said before going to start on some paperwork when her phone buzzed. The blonde retrieved the device noticing a message from Jay. 

'Hey, beautiful hope you both have an amazing day. Stay safe, and be careful. I love you both' -Jay

Severide smiled at the message before going to reply to the message. 

'You're too sweet! I hope you have an awesome day too, I'm always careful :P I love you too'

A can of Zoey's favourite energy drink is set in front of her causing her to look up. "You like you could use one," JJ said as all eyes fell on the agent she could tell they were all watching her including Rossi and Hotch who were also a bit suspicious especially since her behaviour started changing after the dinner they had in Chicago; when Zoey told them she and Jay were officially dating. 

Severide smiled and moved the can to the top of her desk, "I'm good, I don't need to be bouncing off the walls like a crazy person," she said with a smile before turning her attention to the paperwork on her desk. Zoey knew what was going on, the team was growing more and more suspicious about her especially since her behaviour drastically changed due to being 2 months pregnant and still thankfully hadn't started showing yet. 

Severide had an OBGYN she'd visit for appointments and checkups on how the fetus was doing. Jay and Zoey had decided they were going to keep the baby but still hadn't had the conversation about what it would look like with both their busy day jobs. "Severide can we talk?" Hotch asked causing the blonde to stand up walking past the team that still had their eyes on her as she walked up the stairs and followed Hotch into his office. 

"Shut the door," he said as she nodded shutting the door before turning to her boss who was looking her over, no doubt profiling her. "What's up?" Severide asks him, "Everything okay with you? I know it's been a difficult year for you, and I just wanted to make sure your doing okay" the unit chief spoke trying to hide his concern. "I'm doing great," Zoey replied sending the man a genuine smile. 

Hotch sent her a look, "You know that if you ever need to talk my door open right," he said causing Severide to nod her head at him as they stood there silently looking at each other. Zoey moved so her back was stood to the window knowing the team was probably watching them from the desk area. "Nothings wrong, but I do have something I should probably tell you," Severide said looking at Hotch whose face furrowed a bit as he nodded slowly telling her to continue. The blonde anxiously scratches the back of her neck sending a semi-smile to her boss. "I'm um... I'm pregnant," she said watching the man's face freeze for a moment surprised before he smiled. "Congratulations Severide," Hotch said smiling at her as he pulled her into a hug. "How far along?" he asks with a smile still on his face. "8 Weeks..." Severide said causing the man to pause looking at her confused. "I only found out a couple of weeks ago, that's why I'm not drinking alcohol or chugging energy drinks constantly," she said causing the man to nod. 

"Does Jay know?" before Hotch could even ask Zoey was already nodding. "So how do you wanna go about this? I can keep you on desk duty, you'd be able to fly out on cases but you can't be in the field and once you hit your third trimester you gonna be sent home on maternity leave," Hotch said explaining how they were gonna make this work. Severide smiled and nodded, "Kinda figured you'd say that, Thank you Hotch," Severide said looking at her boss who nodded. "Does the team know?" he asks as they both looked at his office window to the group that quickly scattered away from looking at them. "Only Morgan," she said looking at Hotch who stayed quiet for a moment. 

"You know they're just gonna keep digging until you tell them or they find out. They're already suspicious something's going on with you Severide" Hotch told her as she nods. "I know, Jay and I are still trying to figure a lot out," the blonde said with a sigh walking over to the office door. "Try not to stress so much, it's bad for the fetus and you have a lot of people around you that'll help if you let them," Hotch said telling his agent what she already knew deep down. 

She knew between her team, brother and family in Chicago that even if Jay had chosen to walk away; which by the look he'd given her when she mentioned that to him was unlike any other. He was shocked and disgusted, telling her that he'd have to die in order to not be a part of his child's life. Just like Zoey's dad Benny. Jay's father was never really there for him or Will just like Benny in a lot of ways. The only difference was that her father destroyed her family by having an affair with her high-school English teacher. 

The divorce between them was absolutely brutal to the point Kelly went to stay with his friend April and her family for the summer while Zoey went to stay with Gabby, Antonio and their family that summer. Which was how Antonio and Zoey became really close friends. "I'm probably just gonna go rip it off like a band-aid, get it over with and out in the open," Severide said agreeing with Hotch but also not wanting to be questioned by everyone until she would snap even though they were just concerned and worried.
