In Route to Mikaelson Estate

Mystic Falls, Virginia

August 1855

Elena thought Jeremy would kid her on the way home about getting paddled at school, but he and Stefan were quiet. She could not find a comfortable position in the coach and tried unsuccessfully not to squirm. Elena would find out later than Kol and Damon had warned the boys to lay off her. Elena had shown Rebekah and Croiá the note she had to give to Sage.

Rebekah had tried to comfort, "Oh, I am sure Sage will not be too firm with you. Finn, on the other hand..."

Elena was confused. "But he has been so kind to us. Surely, he would not be the one to deal with me."

Rebekah shrugged, "Hope that he does not. He has a very hard hand! Give the note to Sage as soon as we get home."

Elena nodded and agreed that was her best hope.

Mikaelson Estate

Earlier in the Day

Elijah was torn. He was angry with Niklaus for things that happened decades or even centuries ago, but he also knew Klaus did not remember. Celeste Dubois, that was 1810, the year they got Marcel. But Katerina Petrova, that was in 1492. It was so long ago. He would put it aside as they had to face the challenges of the future together. The witches were not done with them.

However, Klaus could almost smell the anger on his brother when Elijah entered the study.

"What did I do now? Tell me, Elijah, I know that look," Klaus said, pushing the ledger he was working on away. "And here I was, happy to welcome you home! Come down, spill out my grievous sins...What are they?"

Elijah shook his head. "Somethings you do not recall, Niklaus. The witch Ilayda unclouded my memory. I was hexed as I fear the others are. You included. She is not sure she can clear your mind this far from the source and it is too dangerous for you to go back to New Orleans. I cannot be angry with you for something that is not your fault..."

"Tell me, Elijah!" Klaus demanded. "I have no idea of what you speak!"

"Niklaus, it was in 1492," Elijah said shortly. "Now, I assume Marcellus filled you in on the trip. Please get me update on business. I hear that Finn is now married. That should make our acquisition of the saloon more fluid."

Finn walked in. "Greetings, Brother. And no, that is still my wife's business to run. I would caution you to show her some respect."
Elijah frowned, "Surely, you would take that burden off her hands. We can now run it as we like. And allow me to congratulate you..."

Finn looked at Elijah sharply. "Elijah, listen to me. To Sage, that saloon is not a burden. She opened it and she will continue to run it until she no longer desires to do so. Do you understand?"

Elijah did not, but he did not wish to argue with two brothers. "Fine, Finn."

Klaus was still caught up in what Elijah had learned. "Finn, Elijah's memories have recovered some but he will not seem to share them with me. I deserve to know what is eating away at him. He is most angry with me."

Elijah retorted, "Niklaus, I said no. Drop the matter! Now kindly stop or we can settle this outside like gentlemen!"

Klaus grinned, "The pistols again? You said dueling was beneath your dignity, but I am sure I can find them somewhere. Finn, you can be the officiant."
Finn snapped, "You two have been together for ten minutes and yet you are here bickering. I am not overseeing your duel. One more word and I will give you both a good hiding!"
