Chapter 2 - A New Job

Willow

I could not find a job. I didn't have a driver's license. My dad did try to teach me how to drive, but I was too scared. I also wanted to work on my own because it was hard to depend on someone to take me places. When I was going to college on campus it was hard for me to keep a ride to school. The people who did take me to school could not always take me to school. They had family problems, car problems, or health problems. I like taking classes online because I didn't have to get up early and I did not have to worry about who was going to take me to school.

I love drawing pictures. My art teacher in middle school was nice, but my high school art teacher was mean. My dad walked into the kitchen. "How are you doing?" My dad asks. "I'm doing ok, just bored," I replied. "Are you still looking for a job?" My dad asks. "Yes, I am. I don't want to work for anyone. I would like to work on my own, but I don't know what I am going to do just yet," I explained. "You can become a writer. I know you've always wanted to be a writer," My dad suggests. "I'm not good at writing, and I don't have the money," I replied. "Willow, I can help you with money. How do you know if you don't try? I read your stories and I thought they were good," My dad encouraged me.

I thought about what my dad told me about being a writer. I did have a lot of ideas for a story. Later, I went to the store and I got a computer. I also got a jump drive. I love mystery stories. When I got home I started working on my story. I did not know what to write. I had a hard time getting my ideas down. I was just looking at the blank screen.

I decided to go out to the park. The weather was glorious and I thought I would have better luck writing my ideas down. There were not many people at the park because it was a school day. There was a coffee shop nearby. I went to get an iced coffee. The clerk was watching the news. "I cannot believe that the police thought Dana killed her husband. I think she is innocent. I hope someone can help her," the clerk told another customer. I don't watch the news to know what happened in the Dana Rollin trial.

Dana

Dana's sister Susan and her husband Christopher came to visit her. "I am working on an appeal, but I need enough evidence. You only get so many appeals. I want to make sure we can win this one. Was anyone threatening George?" Christopher asks. "As far as I know, no. I mean, George didn't tell me anything about anyone threatening him. I do know that he was messing around with other women," Dana replied. "I have to ask this," Christopher starts, "were you having an affair of your own?"

Dana looks down and deeply exhales before replying, "Yes, with a man named Adam Dashwood. George was always gone and I was lonely. I'm not proud of it, but Adam made me happy and honestly, I haven't been happy in a while. I met Adam when I was taking night classes. We started hanging out, but when George wanted to work the marriage out, I stopped seeing him," Dana explained. "How did Adam act when you told him you didn't want to see him anymore?" Christopher asks. "Adam took it pretty badly. He told me that he would never leave me alone. I was his and no one else's," Dana replied.

"Adam would call me a lot, but I ignored him. Eventually he stopped calling, so I thought he had finally met someone else. I haven't seen Adam in ten years." Dana got through explaining. "Did you tell the police?" Susan asks. Dana shakes her head, "I thought if I told the police about my affair it would make me look even more guilty," Dana replied. "She's right. The police would have used the affair against her in court," Christopher agrees. "I don't think Adam killed my husband, if that's what you're thinking," Dana replied. "We still need to find Adam though and question him," Christopher suggests.
