Chapter 14 - Paying the Jury
Willow
Dr. Kirk took me to see Alex. Alex was looking at the wall. "Hello, my name is Willow Mills," I introduce myself. Alex started looking at me. "What do you want?!" Alex asks rudely. "Do you know Barbara Ross?" I ask. "Yes, I do. I love her. Barbara is mine and no one else!" Alex replied angrily. "Do you know Dana Rollin?" I ask. Alex did not answer me. Alex just kept looking at the wall. "Can you come to visit me again?" Alex asks. "Yes, I will," I agreed. I left the mental hospital. I was going to keep seeing Alex because I was hoping he might say something about his relationship with Barbara.
Grady
Willow told Grady she was able to see Alex Dashwood. She told him that Alex had admitted to having a relationship with Barbara Ross. John was doing a background check on all the juries and Cindy Smith. Grady went to talk to Rachel Lee. "Hello, my name is Grady Mills. I have been investigating three murders. I also believe that Alex, Adam, or a member of their family had something to do with two of the murders. Did Jeremy Dashwood pay you and your parents not to press charges against Alex Dashwood?" Grady asks.
"Yes, he did. We needed the money. We were about to lose our house to the bank," Rachel Lee explained. "How well do you know Adam Dashwood?" Grady asks. "Adam was weird like his brother, he was into older women. I know he was into our teacher, Mrs. Anderson. She stopped working at the school and she moved away. No one knew where she moved to," Rachel explained. "What is Mrs. Anderson's first name?" Grady asks. "Katherine," Rachel answers. Grady did not see the point of telling Christopher what Rachel Lee told him.
John calls Grady. "I found out where Cindy Smith lives. I also found out that Cindy had a lot of money in her bank account. Cindy also bought a house and car and she owns a business. I don't know how Cindy got the money. She's not from a rich family or anything, and there's no record saying she inherited any money. I know she didn't win the lottery. Cindy was broke and she was about to lose her house," John explained. "Someone must have paid Cindy to impersonate Dana to put life insurance on George," Grady replied. John also called Christopher to tell him what he learned about Cindy.
Christopher
The next day, Christopher was in California, where he met Charles and Martin at the airport. John told Christopher that Cindy Smith lives in California. They went to Cindy's house. "Hello, my name is Detective Martin Stewart, this is Charles Evans, and Christopher Singer. Christopher Singer is Dana Rollin's lawyer. We know that someone paid you a lot of money after George Rollin was murdered. The prosecutor claimed that Dana put life insurance on her husband. Dana claims she never put life insurance on her husband.
You haven't paid taxes on that money you got! You better start talking about where you got that money!" Martin ordered. "Someone paid me a lot of money to put life insurance on George Rollin and make it look like Dana Rollin put the life insurance on her husband. I don't know who paid me. I just talked to the person on the phone. I did all the paperwork on George's life insurance," Cindy replied. "Why?!" Christopher asks angrily. "I needed the money!" Cindy replied angrily.
"You impersonate my sister-in-law, so you can get money. My sister-in-law is in prison for a crime she did not commit! The real murderer is walking free because of you!" Christopher yells. "You are going to testify in Dana's appeal or you can go to prison!" Martin ordered. "Alright, I will testify," Cindy agrees.
