Chapter 5 - A New Partner
Grady
Grady was looking for a job. Grady has always had problems finding a job. Grady was a lawyer, but he had a hard time keeping a job. Grady was sitting in the kitchen looking at the job advertisements. Grady's mother, Jennifer, walked into the kitchen. "Grady, are you still having a hard time finding a job?" Jennifer asks. "Yes, I'm sorry to be a disappointment to you and dad," Grady replied sadly. "Grady, you are not a disappointment. Your father and I are proud of you. We know you are trying very hard," Jennifer encourages Grady.
"Thank you, mom," Grady replied. "Grady, did it ever occur to you that you were not meant to be a lawyer?" Jennifer asks. "What do you mean?" Grady asks. "I know you don't like being a lawyer,'' Jennifer replied. "What do you think I was meant to do?" Grady asks. "I don't know, but have you thought about being a writer?" Jennifer asks. "What?! I can't write!" Grady replied laughing. "Have you ever tried to write a story?" Jennifer asks. "Yeah, I have. I don't have a creative imagination," Grady replied.
"I know you can write because I read your short stories and they were great," Jennifer replied. "I wrote those stories when I was in high school," Grady replied. "I still believe you are a great writer! It's not going to kill you to try Grady!" Jennifer suggests. "Alright, fine! I'll try to write something." Grady replied in defeat. Grady wasn't sure what to write about. He went to the store to get a computer. Grady was still having problems with what to write. He was conflicted on whether he should write fiction or nonfiction. Grady then decided to write a story about his former boss, Victor Dashwood.
Victor Dashwood was a great boss. He was a lawyer and even had his own law firm. Victor's law firm was the first job Grady got after finishing law school. Grady's parents were very proud of him. He worked for Victor Dashwood for ten years. Victor was not only a good boss, but he was a good friend. When Grady heard that Victor had committed suicide he couldn't possibly believe it. Victor was not suicidal. Grady thought about investigating Victor's death and writing a book about it.
Grady was doing research on Victor Dashwood when his father called him. "How are you doing?" Hank asks. "I'm ok. I've been having problems finding a job though. How is the case going?" Grady asks. "The case isn't going well. I thought the victim's husband might have been our killer, but he had an alibi. He also has a lot of people that can back up his alibi. We don't have any more suspects," Hank replied. "What was the victim's name?" Grady asks. "The woman that was murdered was Heather Davidson," Hank replied.
"I heard about Heather Davidson. Heather was a school teacher at a high school. I hope you can find her murderer. Mom thinks I should be a writer," Grady told Hank. "I think that's a great idea," Hank replied. "I am thinking about writing about my boss Victor Dashwood's suicide," Grady replied. "Willow is helping a lawyer named Christopher Singer with a case. Christopher's sister-in-law was falsely accused of murdering her husband and he needs enough evidence to prove her innocence. They have a suspect named Adam Dashwood," Hank replied. "I know Adam and his brother Alex. I do not think Alex or Adam would kill anyone," Grady replied.
"What is the sister-in-law's name?" Grady asks. "Dana Rollin," Hank replied. "I heard about Dana Rollin. She murdered her husband," Grady replied. "We believe she is innocent. Dana told us that she was having an affair with Adam Dashwood. When she broke up with Adam, he started stalking her. Adam did stop stalking Dana and she had not heard from him in ten years," Hank explained. "I can help Willow and Christopher with the case," Grady offered. "Thank you, that will be great!" Hank replied happily.
