Chapter 4 - The Background Check

Willow

I call Christopher. "Hello, Christopher, this is Willow Mills. I am Hank Mills' daughter. My dad told me that you needed help proving your sister-in-law was innocent," I replied. "Yes, I need enough evidence to win an appeal. Dana only gets so many appeals," Christopher explained. "I can help you. My dad told me that he could help over the phone," I replied. "Thank you," Christopher replied. I ended the conversation with Christopher.

The next day, I met Christopher. "I'm so glad you are helping me," Christopher replied. "I know your sister-in-law is innocent. Do you have any suspects?" I ask. "Yes, Dana was having an affair with a man named Adam Dashwood. Dana and Adam broke up because she wanted to work it out with her husband. Adam did follow her for a while, but he stopped. Dana told us she had not spoken to him in ten years," Christopher explained.

"Do you have any more suspects? I mean, ten years is a long time to wait to get back at someone. I'm sure Adam has moved on," I replied. "I know and I agree, but I still want to find him," Christopher replied. "What do you know about Adam?" I ask. "Dana didn't tell us much," he replied. "Well, we need to go see Dana and ask her more questions about Adam," I requested. Later, we went to the prison to see Dana. "Hello, Dana, this is Willow Mills. She's here to help us," Christopher explained.

"It's nice to meet you and thank you for helping me," Dana replied. "I haven't done anything yet, but I am going to do my best to help prove your innocence. Now, Christopher told me that you were having an affair with a man named Adam Dashwood. Can you tell us more about him?" I requested. "Adam told me that he was from England and had a brother named Alex. He said that he and his brother were really close and that their father took his own life when they were children, so their uncle took them in," Dana explained.

"Did you ever meet Adam's brother?" I ask. "No, but I did see a picture of him, he was a handsome guy," Dana replied. "What part of England is Adam from?" I ask. "London," Dana answered. "I'll call my dad." Willow then dials her father's number, "Dad, we have a suspect and his name is Adam Dashwood. Dana was having an affair with Adam ten years ago," I explained. "Alright, I'll call a friend of mine to see what he can find out about Adam," Hank replied. I finished talking to my dad. "What did your dad say?" Christopher asks. "My dad is going to call a friend and he is going to ask his friend to do a background check on Adam," I replied.

We left the prison. My father knew a police officer named Roland Parker. Later, I went to see Roland. "Hello, Mr. Parker, my name is Willow Mills. I am Hank Mills' daughter," I introduce myself. "It is nice to meet you. How is Hank doing?" Roland asks. "He's doing great. My dad has been busy working on cases, so I'm helping Christopher Singer with a case," I replied. "I know Christopher Singer, he's married to Dana Rollin's sister. I also know Christopher has been trying to prove Dana's innocence. You can call me Roland," Roland requested. "Do you think Dana killed her husband?" I ask.

"No, I don't. If I'm being quite honest, I think my colleagues did a horrible job on the investigation. In fact, I think they rushed the case just to make an arrest. I thought my colleagues should have been looking for other suspects," Roland explained. "Were you involved in the investigation?" I ask. "No, I wasn't. I do know the police officer who was involved in the investigation though. His name is Arnold Petersen. Arnold is a jerk. He has arrested a lot of innocent people," Roland replied. "Where does Arnold live?" I ask. "I'm not sure. Arnold quit his job and he moved a year after Dana was found guilty," Roland replied.

"We do have a suspect named Adam Dashwood. Adam was stalking Dana about ten years ago. Adam lived in London, England," I replied. "George Rollin did have a lot of enemies. I can help you with the investigation," Roland offered. "Thank you," I replied. I then called my dad and I told him that Roland Parker was going to help us with the investigation.
