The man chuckled and all she could do was stare at her parents' bodies in horror. He... he had... he had killed them!

She fell to her knees on the living room carpet and put her face in her hands, willing the tears to come but they didn't. This was it. She was going to die.

"Oh no, did I frighten you?" The man asked, fake pity dripping from his words. "Well don't worry, you won't be afraid soon! 'Cause guess what? You'll be joining them!" He raised the gun.

Just then, the front door slammed open and the man froze, slowly turning around.

"Put your hands in the air and drop your weapon!" One of the policemen ordered.

The man grumbled something under his breath and then grudgingly did so. The officer who had spoken swiftly walked over and cuffed his wrists together while the other strode over to the girl who was on the carpet.

"Are you alright?" He asked, giving her a one-over.

The girl nodded, still in shock.

"Everything's alright now." He said gently, putting a hand on her head. "Can you tell me your name?"

"Kayla." The girl managed. "Kayla Fubuki."
