"What do you want to eat for breakfast, sweetheart?" Eddie shouts from the kitchen. I roll over in bed, turning to face the doorway. My stomach groans in discomfort at the thought of food.

"Nothing, I'm not feeling too good right now. You go ahead and eat without me," I answer back, pulling the covers tighter around me. I hear his footsteps come up the stairs, coming closer to me.

"What's the matter?" Eddie says, his head peeking through the door..

"I dont feel too good, that's all. Nothing major. It'll pass. I've been feeling like it for the past few weeks now. I'll be fine."

"Are you sure? Maybe we should go to a doctor about it? It can't be normal."

"Well I'm far from normal anyway Eddie."

"I know that... Let me take you to the doctor. If it turns out to be nothing, then it's all good but if it's not, I'd rather know sooner than later."

"But, I just want to stay in bed Eddie. Don't make me leave the comfort of our bed."

Eddie tuts, scooping me up out of the bed, still wrapped in the covers. He holds me close to him as he makes his way through our house. Carefully carrying me down the stairs.

"Eddie, put me down or I'll scream," I say as I cling to him.

"Save the screaming for later sweetheart," he says, a slight smirk on his lips. "I'm taking you and that's final."

"Can I at least get dressed first?"

‐---------------

My leg bounces up and down as I sit on the edge of the seat, waiting to be called through. I hate hospitals. I don't want to be here, but Eddie's worried about me.

I look next to me at Eddie and he notices my discomfort. He rubs my back as we wait, but I want to leave. I feel better. I don't want to waste anyones time.

"Eddie, I feel better now. I'm hungry. Can we go?" I ask Eddie. He turns to me with a confused look on his face.

"You feel better? Hasn't this been happening for a while now though? What's stopping it from coming back?" he questions, leaning forward in his seat and grabbing my hand.

"Yeah, but-"

"Then we're staying, Lyssa. We'll figure this out and then we'll go home. If you want some food on the way back, we can stop somewhere and grab a little something."

"Eddie, please. Can we-"

"Melissa Munson?" the nurse finally calls.

I squeeze my eyes shut at the sound of my name. Eddie pulls me forward, holding my hand in his and giving it a little reassuring squeeze, in an attempt to comfort me.

We reach the nurse and she guides us towards a consulting room, opening the door for us. She sits me down on the bed, whilst Eddie sits on the seat next to me, and she leaves the room, after telling us our doctor should be in shortly.

"It'll be okay," Eddie says, giving my hand another squeeze. I feel clammy and my heart feels like its in my throat.

"Mrs Munson, we're going to arrange a blood test for you. Ill have that sorted for you in a few moments," the doctor says as he walks into the room, locking the door behind him. "I need to ask you a few questions first."

The doctor sits at the computer in the room, getting my details up on the screen. He turns back to me, looking from Eddie to me.

"Can you tell me your date of birth?" he asks.

"The 14th of March 1967," I reply.

"Okay, good. When did this sickness of yours start?"

"A couple weeks ago, maybe."

"How long does it last for? Does it happen every morning?"

"A few hours almost every morning."

"Have you been put off by any certain foods?

"Uh, yeah, kind of. I can't stand the smell of coffee anymore. I feel nauseous whenever I get the slightest whiff of coffee."

"I'm assuming since you're married that you are sexually active?"

"Very," Eddie replies for me.

"Hmm..." the doctor says, a quizzical look on his face. "Mrs Munson, what was the date of your last menstruation?"

"Menstra-, what?" Eddie asks. The doctor ignores his question and continues looking at me. I think back and the realisation hits me.

"About 2 and a half months ago," I finally answer, now knowing exactly what's wrong with me.

"What?" Eddie asks, still confused.

"I'll send the nurse back in to do a test and then she'll see you out. If you have any more problems, don't hesitate to come back."

I shift uncomfortably in my seat and look over at Eddie. His face scrunched up in confusion. The doctor unlocks the door and leaves the room, leaving me alone to break the news to Eddie.

"What's happening?" he asks, standing directly in front of me. "Are you having a blood test?"

"Eddie, I haven't had my period for 2 and a half months," I reply, holding his hand in mine. I can feel how sweaty my palms are in his and my heart feels like its in my throat. I really hope he's going to be happy about this because I don't know how to feel right now.

"So, what? What's that got to do with your illness?"

I squeeze his hand as I prepare to say the words. God, I hope he doesn't leave me.

I take a breath. I need to get this over and done with. He looks worried and he needs to know.

"Eddie, I'm pregnant."

"You're... what?"

"I'm pregnant."

"You're pregnant."

"If I have to say it one more time, I will kick you."

"Is it mine?"

"What? That's your question. No, it's not yours. It's the milkman's... of course it's yours."

"I thought you were on birth control."

"I am. I was. I was an idiot. I missed one morning and thought I'd be okay."

"I'm... I'm going to be a dad?" he says, framing it as a question.

"Yes, Eddie," I answer, still waiting for his emotional expression about the news.

He pulls me into his chest, his hand against the back of my head. His lips leaving kisses along my head and face.

"Thank you. I love you, Lyssa."
