"The Devil has come to America. Dungeons and Dragons, at first regarded as a harmless game of make-believe, now has both parents and psychologists concerned," I hear him say as I roll my eyes. Eddie just loves the drama and attention. "Studies have linked violent behaviour to the game, saying it promotes satanic worship, ritual sacrifice, sodomy, suicide, and even murder."

With the last word, he drops the magazine from his face, glancing over in my direction. My middle finger somehow finding its way into his field of vision. He smirks before turning back to his friends.

I notice Dustin and Mike joining his table, feeling sorry for them having to be in Munson's presence.

"We're the freaks because we like to play a fantasy game," I once again hear Eddie exclaim, before he jumps up on the table. Told you, loves attention.

"But as long as you're into band or science, or parties," Eddie shouts, putting on a voice for parties. He raises his hands up to his face. "Or a game where you toss balls into laundry baskets!"

"You want something, freak?" Jason, the captain of the basketball team, shouts at Eddie. Fucking Jason, the only other person worse than Eddie.

Eddie forms his fingers into devil horns, sticking out his tongue and making a noise. My eyes are really getting a work out today, as I roll them once again.

"It's forced conforming. That's what's killing the kids!"

I pull my headphones back over my ears. I've heard enough from Munson today. I used to love his over-emphasis, but now it just brings back painful memories.

I leave the cafeteria behind and exit out onto the school grounds, wanting to find a space to smoke. I'll be avoiding the table in the woods for a while, again.

I spot a tree and decide its the best I'm going to get. Pulling out my smokes once again, I light one up and look towards the main entrance of the school. Just in time to make eye contact with Mike Wheeler.

He starts to practically run over towards me, a slight look of panic etched on his face.

"Melissa, do you still remember how to play D&D?" he asks, slightly out of breath.

"Course I do, how could I forget? Why?"

"Could you sub for Lucas? He has his championship game tonight and Eddie is making us get someone to sub in for him."

"Eddie? You really think he'd even let me sub? He hates my guts!"

"He doesn't hate you, he-"

"Fuck off, he doesn't hate me. You've seen how he talks to me. Like I'm not worth anything."

"Just please come sub. If Eddie won't let you, we'll deal with it. Just please help. Do it for me. Do it for Dustin."

"Why you gotta do me like that Wheeler? You know Henderson is my weakness. Fine, I'm in. Just let me know when and where to be and I'll be there."

"Thank you Melissa. Thank you. Just meet us out here tonight at 5 and we'll take you."
