"Dad's not here?" I asked my mom once I got back home from the Chateau

"Dad's not here?" I asked my mom once I got back home from the Chateau. She was laying on the couch, a book in hands.

"He left this morning for business. He told me he'd be back just in time for Midsummer. I'm sorry sweetie." She replied, giving me a sad smile.

"It's okay. Actually, it's probably better. At least I won't have to lie to him about why I'm upset." I said with a shrug.

She looked up from her book with a frown. She sat up on the couch and patted the seat next to her. "Come here honey. Tell me what's wrong." Mom said with concern in her tone.

I sat next to her and shrugged again. "It's nothing. Boys stuff you know." I didn't want to talk about what happened between JJ and me, because it would only hurt more, but I didn't want to lie to Mom either. I was lucky to have a loving and caring family, and extremely healthy relationships with both of my parents. And while I hated talking about my feelings, I never had trouble opening up to Mom, especially about boys.

"Arg, boys." She said, making a sound of disgust. "What a bunch of idiots!" She added, which made me smile.

"You married one." I pointed out.

"Yeah true. Luckily for me he's not so bad." She joked. I smiled again. "Do you want to talk about it?" Mom asked me after a few seconds.

I shook my head. "No. Not now. Maybe later, with some ice cream?" I said, glancing at her.

She smiled. "That sounds like a good idea." She agreed, making gentle circle on my back.

We stayed silent for a while. "Can I ask you something?" I spoke eventually.

She was looking at me with an interrogative look on her face. "Sure sweetie. Anything." She replied with a smile.

"Would you go shopping with me for my Midsummer dress?" I asked. Her eyes widened a little, which led me to think that she wasn't expecting that question. The surprise quickly let room to concern.

"Did something happen with Sarah? I thought you planned to do shopping with her." She recalled.

"No, nothing happened with Sarah." I assured her. "I just wanted to spend a day with you and Joy. Just like the old days, you know." I sent her a half-smile.

Her face softened and she gave me a wide smile. "Then yes, I would love to spend a shopping day with you. A mother-daughters day, like the old times."

I hugged her tightly before heading up to my room.
