It has been two days since I moved at the Chateau. I saw no one except John B, and I must admit I felt relieved. Don't get me wrong, I love being surrounded by my loved ones, but during tough times, I tend to withdraw into myself and rather be alone. I hate talking about my feelings, and I know people will always ask me about it if they see me sad or upset. And the only thing that can come out of that is even more sadness or irritation due to repeating again and again the same things. So, yes, I enjoyed these two days of being alone.

I used this time to finally finish the book I'd started three weeks ago. Fortunately for me, that wasn't a romance book, so I didn't cry reading it. I also took this opportunity to reconnect with my sketchbook and my pencils. John B's house was kind of an inspiring place for my creativity. It was probably because of all the old stuff of his father.

Now it was early evening and John B, JJ and I were sitting around the fire. My blond best-friend had joined us earlier, and I'd noticed he also took a backpack with him, which could only mean that he was planning to stay too. It wasn't hard to guess that he had a fight with his father again. And in front of John B and me, he didn't try to hide it anyway. Neither John B nor I asked questions about it. What could we have asked anyway that we didn't know yet? As my mom had told me once, Luke Maybank was a violent and abusive alcoholic man. He is well known by the sheriff and his policemen, and it's no secret that the man went in and out of jail a few times. So, Luke Maybank didn't need a reason to be angry, especially at his son.

We talked about everything and anything, careful to avoid a few subjects, as we drank beer. Well, not me, because I still find it disgusting. But I let John B make me one of his cocktails. It tasted fruitier than alcoholic, and I was glad of it because I didn't want to get drunk tonight. It was just enough for me to forget my problems for a while.

A few hours later, it was now pitch dark and the only light around us was the burning fire. None of us spoke, and we could hear the sound of bugs coming from the forest surrounding us and the soothing of the waves not so far away. Eventually, John B stood up and said: "I'm sorry to leave you so soon, but I have to wake up early tomorrow. Work at the Cameron's."

Both JJ and I nodded, and our friend headed to the front door of the house. Before he opened it, he turned towards us and said: "Ah, JJ. Since Lexi is sleeping on the couch, you can sleep in my room or..." He dragged on. "Or you can sleep with her. Uh- I mean not with her. But with her. You get what I mean. Anyway, night guys!" He stuttered before closing the door behind him, leaving JJ and I chuckling softly.

However, JJ's face quickly hardened, turning to the fire once again. Like that, the fire was perfectly enlightening his features. His jawbone was beautifully defined. His piercing blue eyes seemed lost in the fire. His sooth skin was glowing gold because of the orange flames in front of us. And his golden hair was messed and falling in front of his face. I had to resist the urge to pass my hand through it because that was the only thing I could think of right now.
