Parking my car near the boneyard, a knot started to form in my stomach

Parking my car near the boneyard, a knot started to form in my stomach. After everything that had happened at JJ's home, I had dropped him at The Chateau and then I had headed home to relax. I had needed some time alone to register everything JJ had said and to process my feelings.

But about thirty minutes ago, while I was reading on my bed, a notification on my phone had caught my attention. A text from JJ.

'Can you come at the boneyard right now? It's urgent. But not too much. But come now please.'

Saying I was confused when I had first read it would be an understatement. The worse thoughts had come up in my mind immediately. Dropping off my book in the middle of a chapter (a thing that I don't normally do), I had quickly put on the first shirt I had found in my room, a pair of shorts and my shoes before racing to my car. On my way, I had also told my parents that I most likely wouldn't be back for dinner. They had only nodded and told me to be safe. They were used to me spending all my time at The Chateau or at The Wreck anyway.

Getting out of my car, I noticed no one seemed to be there, and the knot in my belly tightened. Only when I got to where the beer keg is usually placed during parties, my eyes caught sight of a silhouette in the distance. The person didn't seem to have noticed me though.

I walked quickly towards the silhouette, an urgency feeling now adding to the knot in my stomach. After a few feet of nearly running, I finally saw JJ's figure clearly. He had his back turned to me. And while I approached, I couldn't help but worry about what had happened. Did Luke had hit him again? When he'll turn, would his face be covered in blood and bruises?

"Hey, JJ. What's wrong?" I asked, urgency in my voice, when I finally reached where he was standing.

Unlike all I had thought seconds ago, when he turned, the only thing covering his face was a large smile. "Lexi! You're finally here!" He exclaimed, arms open.

Even if he seemed safe, my mind wouldn't let me lower my guard nor my worry. "You said it was urgent!" I told him with a questioning yet concerned look.

"Urgent, but not too much." He corrected with a finger up, quoting the text he had sent me earlier. "And I said that because the pizza would cool quickly." He added, gesturing to the box that was laid on a white blanket on the ground.

It took me some seconds to comprehend what was going on. Near the pizza box was a cooler and I also noticed a translucent box containing what looked like cookies. "So, you're okay?" I asked him with a frown.

"Yes, yes. Everything is fine!" He reassured me, getting closer to me and cupping my face with his hands. "Everything is totally fine, I swear."
