Four Hours Later

Fury

"How is Protocol Tessa going Hill?" She nodded at me.

"Great, sir. It was a success. We were able to get everyone out in three hours, sir. The Tesseract is showing very high levels sir. Agent Rogue says it's only a matter of moments before a gateway will open sir. She is suited up and ready sir for anything that may come through the other side." I owed Coulson an apology.

He was right about her. She is the one who came up with Protocol Tessa. She's the one who made it imperative that all the agents got out. She told me that Loki would be ruthless, and when he came through he wouldn't care about the lives he took. He would kill without hesitation. I entered the room that we held the Tesseract in. Agent Rogue was standing near Dr. Selvig. She had a bag resting on her back with her arms over her chest.

"Agent Rogue?" She turned to me.

"Sir, the Tesseract has begun releasing bolts of energy. I fear it is time to evacuate the last few personnel on site, Director." Nyx's purple eyes met mine.

Her body was tense and ready to act. There was no warmth in her eyes. She was cold and tense.

"The Tesseract's energy is spiking the highest it's ever been. Its readings are off the charts. It's emitting low levels of gamma radiation. There's no way to stop the portal from opening. Whoever is trying to open a gateway is succeeding." Nyx pulled out a gun and knife.

She stood ready to deal with whoever came through the gate. Blue sparks started flying. A wave of blue light spread across the room. Then a portal opened.

"Be ready to move. The target is hostile." Clint came up next to me.

"Will you be okay, kid?" I ground my teeth.

No. I shook my head. I wouldn't be. I knew that I would have to fight Loki.

"I'll be fine, old man." I smiled a small smile.

Once the blue light diminished I stepped forward before anyone else. Loki stepped out and the portal closed. He looked terrible. His skin was grey and he was sweating.

"Sir, I'm going to have to ask you to put down the scepter. I need you to come with me." Loki tilted his head and narrowed his eyes at me.

"I don't know you. Who are you? You're new." I was angry.

"Not important. Now put down the scepter. I won't ask again." I raised the gun I learned to use in my right hand.

"I would do as she says. She's deadly with those weapons." Thanks Fury.

Loki met my eyes. They were blue. Loki's eyes aren't blue. They are green. He wasn't himself, but that wouldn't stop me from protecting the mortals around me. I raised my dagger with my other hand ready to act.

"If I don't?" I grit my teeth.

"Then I will attack plain and simple. Put. It. Down." Loki narrowed his eyes.

"Do I know you little mortal?" Mortal?

Loki knows I am not a mortal. He knows what I look like. He knows what I am. Why would he call me a mortal? I glanced at the scepter in his hand. It was blue, like his eyes. I lunged. I shot at him. The bullets bounced off of him, but the blade wouldn't. I threw the gun at him and sliced his face with the blade. He thrusted the scepter towards my chest. I dodged out of the way. I looked at his face. It was healing. There was no green glow. There was a blue flash. That wasn't Loki's power. I summoned another dagger.

"Now put the scepter down, Loki." He looked surprised.

"So you know who I am. Am I supposed to be impressed?" I scoffed.

"Nyx of Asgard told us everything she could about you before she died." His face turned paler.

"What," he took a step towards me, "you lie mortal. Nyx wouldn't die so easily."

I barely had time to react before he launched himself at me. I dodged the scepter again. I had a bad feeling about the scepter. I was too focused on dodging to determine what the glowing blue light was. I dodged again and the scepter came swinging from the side. I was thrown against a wall. Bullets started flying. I heard yells. I glanced up just in time to see Loki press the scepter to Clint's chest.

"No! Hawkeye!" Loki turned to me.

I stood quickly. I noticed the blue wormhole starting to shake the whole room. I looked at Selvig. His eyes were blue. Then I glanced at Clint. His eyes were blue too. They were the same shade as the stone in the scepter. Like Loki.

The mind stone. That is the only thing it could be. The staff was the containment vessel for the mind stone.

"You will pay for that, Loki Odinson. I don't care who you have pulling your strings. That doesn't excuse this behavior. You are not worthy to be king." That made him angry.

"You know nothing, you mewling quim! I am above you." I scoffed.

He hadn't changed one bit.

"A king doesn't start a war to rule over a planet. You are below me, because you are letting another pull your strings. You are nothing but a child. Grow up!" He was furious, angry even.

He stormed towards me.

"Sir, she's distracting you." I looked at Hawkeye.

Dammit. Loki stopped.

"She's giving Fury time to grab the Tesseract. However, when you forced open the portal, this place became unstable. It's ready to collapse. We have to go before we are buried under 100 pounds of stone." I lunged for Clint.

Maybe if I knock him out then he'll wake up.

Clint shot at me. I dodged one and got hit with the other. The bullet didn't pierce me, but my head hit the ground hard. My vision turned black. I got up as quickly as I could. I heard Fury grunt. I got on my feet and made my way to Fury. I helped him up.

"We have to go, sir." I searched for anyone else in the vicinity mentally.

I found agent Hill.

Hill, it's Rogue. Barton's been compromised. Be careful.

"Can you teleport me to the roof?" I looked at Fury.

"Of course I can. Then I'm going after Loki." Fury shook his head.

"No. I need you to go after someone else." I transported us to the helicopter.

I was confused. I helped Fury in and climbed after him. We took off just as the ground beneath us started crumbling. I watched as the ground collapsed upon itself. I felt the tears gather in my eyes. I saw flashes of the broken Bifrost. I didn't want to lose another home.

"Rogue," I didn't answer, "Nyx!"

I snapped out of it and looked at Fury. He pointed to the car. Loki was pointing the scepter at us.

"Shit!" I grabbed Fury and transported us to the ground.

The helicopter blew up. I stood and watched as Loki was driven away in a car. I astral projected myself next to him. I made sure I appeared as I did on Asgard.

"Loki?" His head turned to me.

Those blue eyes of his were strange to look at. He wasn't in control.

"Nyx, you are as beautiful as the day I lost you. I only wish you were really here." Hearing that broke my heart.

"I am here, Loki." I hugged him.

"No you're not. You're dead. This is all just a figment of my imagination. This is his doing. He will do anything to torture me. Be gone!" I was back in my body.

"We must go. It is time to put Agent Coulson's plan into play." I nodded my head.

"As you wish, Director." I transported us to another SHIELD facility.
