Brooklynn Waters always had it good. Her father was a strong alpha, having a large pack that resided in the northern part of Arkansas. He was a strong leader, always making sure to keep his people first, and doing whatever necessary to make sure they were taken care of. He taught Brooklynn how to lead, in case something happened to him before her younger brother, Brandon, was old enough to take over the pack. She didn't really like being second choice to her little brother, who was the youngest of all the children, but that's just how things were.

He might not have been the most affectionate father, but Brooklynn didn't mind much. Alphas were known for being hard-headed, and some even cruel. She accepted the cards she was dealt and moved on. She was brought up being told that her place would be behind, not beside, her alpha mate. She would stand behind him, doing what needed to be done as a luna and nothing else. Majority of her was excited to become a luna, running a pack with her gorgeous mate, who would love, nurture, and protect her. She often dreamt of what her mate would look like, losing focus on her studies and just daydreaming of a tall, handsome, hopefully extremely bulky and built, man.

Her and her sister, Adeline, or, as the younger girl liked to be called, Andy, would sit and gossip about what their mates would look like. They had two totally different ideas of mates. Andy, who preferred girls to boys, wanted a tall, but not too tall, she wolf. She would have the prettiest eyes of anyone on the whole planet, and her wolf would stand out against everyone else's, was usually how she would describe it. Brooklynn would laugh and shush her, reminding her that if their dad were to hear, he would lose it.

Michael Waters wasn't happy about the fact that one of his children, his children, were into the same sex. His children had roles to fill, obligations to their pack. The girls, being born of an alpha, would be mated to an alphas son. Brandon would become alpha of their pack one day, the way nature intended. When Andy had told him that she wasn't the slightest bit interested in being a luna, the alpha nearly lost it. He had yelled, thrown things, demanded that she go to her room and think about what she was doing to her pack.

Brooklynn had stood in front her little sister, shielding her from Michael's rage, making sure he didn't accidentally throw and hit the small girl with something. It had been scary, none of the kids had ever seen him like that, and it was all over Andy telling him she didn't like boys.

Brooklynn's mother, who was a kind and soft spoken luna, had tried to calm Michael during the altercation. She said the cruelest things about her youngest daughter, tears pricking her eyes as she reminded her mate that it didn't matter if Andy mated an alpha. "She's your youngest daughter," she had said. "it doesn't matter if she mates an alpha. Brooklynn is the one you need to worry about."

It hurt Andy hearing her be put down by her mother, but she knew she didn't mean it. Rachel Waters knew how her mate was, and she knew the things she had to say to calm him down. Brooklynn had taken Andy to her room, sitting her on the bed as the young girl cried in her chest. It was heartbreaking, knowing she couldn't do anything to alleviate the pain her little sister felt. So, she just simply held her, whispering encouraging words in her ear.

That had been a year ago, when Brooklynn was nineteen, Andy only fourteen, and Brandon ten. Andy had shifted, and realized then that she had zero desire for a boy. Not knowing her dad would react in such a way, she excitedly had told him. That had been a really bad idea.

Now, Brooklynn was twenty, moving out of her parents house (finally), and was trying to figure out what to do until she met her mate. She had just finished packing the last of her things, and was carrying her last box from her room out to her truck. Andy came running back in the house, her hands now empty of the box she had been carrying out. Brooklynn gave her a loving smile, passing the box in her hands to Andy's awaiting one's. "Thanks, Sis. I really appreciate you helping me move."
