It was all Brooklynn could do to keep her tears from falling. That would only make things worse. Michael was mad, she assumed at her and Drew for holding hands. But didn't the man put two and two together and realize they were mates? Brooklynn was a good girl, she never flirted with boys, didn't sneak out to meet up with them. Surely he didn't think she was up to something?
Michael led her up the stairs and into his office, turning and slamming the door and Brooklynn wrapped her arms around herself. She stared at the floor, not meeting his eyes as he turned to face her. "Look at me." He demanded, his wolf flashing in his eyes at her. She lifted her head up, squeezing her elbows tight, looking into his eyes. He was huffing, trying to calm himself, keep his wolf from lashing out. It wasn't working. "What the hell was that?!" he yelled, his hands balled up into fists at his side. "You sneak off with that... boy! And then come back holding his hand?!"
"He's my mate, Dad." she said, her voice soft, scared to set him off. "We're mates, it isn't like that."
"You will not be mated to him! I won't have it!" boomed Michael, pointing his finger at her. "You'll go back out there, reject him, and I'll make some phone calls and set up something."
Brooklynn's eyes widened at his words. "Why can't I be mated to him? He's an alpha, Dad. You heard Alpha Branson, he'll be ready by the end of next month!" she exclaimed, her voice rising.
Michael growled, stomping to stand nose to nose with her. His voice was low and hard, full of anger and disgust. "That boy is no alpha. He will never be. He didn't even get his wolf until a year ago. He's weak, and that sister of his is no better!"
Nicole, who was standing outside the door with Rachel, placed her hand on the doorknob at Michael's words. She was being disrespected, along with Drew, and she wouldn't stand for it. Before she could barge in, Brooklynn's voice stopped her. "Nicole Branson is an alpha, and a good one! Her and Aldrich believe in him, and they wouldn't spend as much time training him if he wasn't an alpha!" Brooklynn paused, her eyes not wavering from
Michael's. "He's my mate. If you don't like that, then too bad. He is my mate. And when he takes his rightful place as Alpha of Silent Ash, I'll be right there by his side. You wanted me to be a luna, and that's what I'm gonna do." She paused again, stepping back from Michael, knowing that the next words out her mouth would more than likely set him off. She didn't care though. She was tired of bending to him. "I won't be controlled anymore. Never again. You can try to force Andy" She saw his eyes flash at the nickname he hated so much. "to change her lifestyle and be just like you want her too. But she never will. Brandon is your only son, he's the only one you should be worried about. So I refuse to go back outside to my mate and reject him, simply because you can't see past his upbringing. He didn't ask for any of the shit that happened to him! And if you would stop worrying so much about power, you would see that your past doesn't define you! He's an alpha. And he'll be my alpha soon. You can either accept that, or forget I ever existed."Michael snarled, taking a step towards her, before the door opened. He faltered, turning to see Nicole standing in the door, Rachel behind her. Nicole's eyes were wild as she slowly stepped inside the room. She walked over to stand in front of Brooklynn, glaring daggers at the man in front of her. She wasn't scared or intimidated. She had dealt with worse men than the one before her. "Brooklynn, pack your things." she calmly ordered the girl.
Brooklynn glanced at her mom, seeing her nod at her encouragingly. "Yes, Alpha." she mumbled, the power in
Nicole's voice demanding her respect. She turned and walked to Rachel, her mom wrapping her arm around her and leading her out the room. Nicole's eyes didn't leave Michael's, her wolf flashing in her eyes. "Your youngest daughter, Andy, will come with me also. You don't deserve a she wolf with as much charisma and energy as her."Michael growled out, "None of my children will go anywhere."
"Oh, yes, they will." Nicole sneered. "Unless you want Nightshade and Silent Ash warriors at your borders day after tomorrow."
Michael glared at the young alpha, his eyes flashing dangerously. "Fine. Take them."
Nicole nodded once, turning to leave. She paused, looking over her shoulder. "Do not contact Nightshade or Silent Ash for anything. As soon as the girls are ready, we'll be leaving. Have a nice day, Alpha." With that, she turned back and left. Michael was left to brood in his office, trashing it like a child throwing a tantrum.
Drew and Aldrich were waiting at the foot of the stairs when Brooklynn and Rachel came down. Everleigh was laid on Aldrich's shoulder, sleeping. Drew took Brooklynn's hand, helping her down the last few steps. "You okay?"
Brooklynn nodded. "Yeah, I'm fine." She turned to her mom, her eyebrows furrowed. "Mom, I can't leave you and Andy. You know that."
"Andy is going with you. She doesn't need to be here. She doesn't deserve how he treats her." Rachel replied, wiping a stray tear from her daughters cheek. "Take care of her, please. I'll visit when I can."
Brooklynn nodded and hugged her, burying her face in Rachel's neck. "Leave if you have too. Please. You've put up with it longer than us."
"I'll be okay, Babe. I know how to deal with him." she replied, pulling away, but keeping her arms wrapped tightly around her. "I'll go get Andy. Head back home in case your father comes down."
Brooklyn nodded, stepping out of her moms embrace. Drew placed a hand on her lower back, the two of them making their way out to Brooklynn's truck. Nicole came down a moment later, her eyes not as wild as before. "As soon as the girls are ready, we'll leave. Be sure to say your goodbyes, Rachel."
Rachel nodded and smiled sadly. "I will. Thank you, Alpha. I'm in your debt."
Nicole shook her head, embracing the woman. "We're family now. You owe me nothing. I'll take care of them." They pulled away, Nicole giving her a sad look. "I told Michael not to call either of our packs. But if you need us, call. We'll be here."
Rachel nodded, thanking her, before going to find Andy, who was still outside.
Brooklynn and Drew climbed in her truck, and if it wasn't for the tense air, Drew would've complimented the truck. He didn't think she would drive one, and he'd be lying if he said he wasn't impressed. They drove in silence to Brooklynn's house. She pulled into the driveway, taking the key from the truck and stepping out. Drew followed her up the steps of the house, glancing around at the outside as she unlocked the door. She opened it, stepping in, Drew following close behind. Flipping the lights on, she walked to her room, inviting him in as she went to her closet. Drew glanced around the bedroom, stopping to look at a few pictures of her family hanging on the wall. He soon made it to her vanity, smiling at the newspaper and magazine clipping. "I knew you were a Nicole Branson fan." he joked, reading one of the articles about his sister.
"Oh, shut up. Ever since she became alpha of Silent Ash, I've looked up to her. I just keep that there for motivation." she replied from inside the closet, pulling her suitcases out as she began packing her things. "I just bought this fucking house. Fuck Michael Waters."
Drew chuckled and sat on her large bed, watching her in the walk in closet. "It's nice. I'm sorry you're leaving it."
"It's fine. Anywhere is better than this pack, trust me."
Drew smiled, leaning back on his arms to watch her. She had taken the pieces of hair she pinned back, down. So her long red hair flowed freely down her back. She packed three suitcases full of things before she was done. Drew had gotten up, grabbing the bags and bringing them out to the truck. He mind linked Nicole, checking to see if they were ready to leave. They were, so he and Brooklynn climbed back into the truck.
As they drove back to the pack house, Brooklynn plugged her phone into the auxiliary cord. She turned on Eye of the Tiger, turning the radio up a bit. Drew chuckled as he heard the beginning chords, immediately recognizing the song. "Good choice." he commented, putting his arm out the window.
Brooklynn laughed, nodding her head. "Yeah, it's my favorite song. I probably listen to it more than I should."
Drew smiled and began singing along, off key and belting it as he turned the radio up louder. Brooklynn laughed, joining him as they practically shouted the lyrics.
