I usually don't do a lot of authors notes during a chapter, but I wanted too for this. Drew and Nicole's relationship is very open with one another. They're siblings that have a strong bond, so they talk about things some people may find weird for siblings of the opposite sex to discuss. If you haven't read the first book, you probably don't know how things like nudity and sex aren't a taboo thing to their people. They see each other naked all the time, and it's not weird to them, because it's a common thing in their culture. The fact that Drew had male parts and sex with his mate doesn't bother Nicole, because at the end of the day, sex is a big thing in their culture, and they aren't ashamed of it. Sex and nudity aren't really something you don't want to know about, or something that makes them highly uncomfortable. They are animalistic, since part of themselves is made up of a wolf. So if there's something in this book, like how physically affectionate Drew and Nicole are (not kissing on lips, inappropriate touching, and things like that, but they are very affectionate in the sense of physical touch, such as hugs and kisses on appropriate spots), try to think to yourself, 'is this something that would happen in the wild, with wolves?'. Wolves are very affectionate animals, with strong social bonds. So if Nicole and Drew are overly affectionate, or even Nicollet to her children, it's because it's natural for them and their wolves. They strengthen their bonds through affection, so when Nicole does something for Drew, it's natural for him to want to hug her, or give her a loving kiss on the cheek. Because that's what their wolf would do.
I just wanted to clear those things up. I would always get comments like, 'okay, they're all standing around each other, why are they still naked?', and I figure after this chapter I'll start to get questions about why Nicole and Drew are so affectionate to one another, and how weird it is. So here's your explanation before you even leave the comment! Enjoy xxBrooklyn ended up sleeping the rest of the night, but Drew laid wide awake. Brooklyn had tucked herself into his side, her face buried into his neck, while Drew laid still on his back, with his arm propped behind his head. Her mark, it make him nervous. Maybe she was right, maybe he was a Lycanthrope? Why else would her mark be a crescent?
The Lycanthropes were ancient. They were considered the first ever wolves, created by Selene herself. They bore the mark of Selene, a crescent, and were known to where them proudly. Their bloodline had been thought to be extinct, but maybe, it just laid dormant? Still, that didn't explain why there wasn't more of them if that was the case. The mark of Selene was impossible to miss, since it covered most the Lycan's back, according to the books about them. So if there were more, people would know.Surely, Drew wasn't the only one?
He had finally accepted what he was, the mark on Brooklyn proved that he did in fact have the Lycan gene. What did that mean for him? He didn't know exactly. He could still shift into a full wolf, which Lycan's weren't able to do, since they just partially shifted. He also didn't bare the mark himself, so he still didn't understand exactly what he was, but he definitely had come to terms with the fact he had Lycan in him.
He had stared at the ceiling for hours, his eyes burning from lack of sleep. But he just couldn't do it. Every time he closed his eyes, he saw Brooklyn, covered in blood, and then the sheer look of terror she had when she woke up. He never wanted to see her like either of those ever again.
Finally growing tired of staring at the ceiling, he slowly slipped out from under Brooklyn, handing her his shirt, which she buried her face into. He quietly made his way to the kitchen, not surprised when he saw Nicole sitting at the bar.
"Can't sleep?" she asked him, a half drank bottle of wine sitting beside her. She must have been drinking it from the bottle. She was wearing sweats, a pair of joggers and a large T-shirt that belonged to Aldrich. Her blonde hair was tightly braided into two French braids.
