Brooklyn found herself sitting on the stairs inside the pack house, picking at a stray thread on her jeans. She had dressed up like she did, not because she thought Drew would be her mate, but she did want to look nice if the handsome man (who was close to her age and not mated) did show. She felt defeated, especially after realizing he was in fact her mate.
She had laid in bed many times, going over the different scenarios of how she would find her mate. She always imagined he would see her, proclaim her as his mate, sweep her off her feet, and take her away from her pack. He would be an alpha, and they would leave and go back to his pack, where he would claim her as his. They'd have many children, a couple boys and girls, and would lead the pack together. That's how it usually went, with the exception of Nicole Danielson. What she didn't expect was for her mate to just simply walk away. He spoke one sentence to her, then walked away.
"What the fuck is wrong with me?" she mumbled, running her hands up and down her face.
"Hey." a familiar voice met her ears.
She picked her head up, dropping her hands at her side, her eyes meeting Drew's. "Hey." she softly replied, sitting up straighter as he slowly walked towards her.
"Do you mind if I sit?" he asked, stopping to stand in front of her. The girl nodded, and Drew sat beside her, leaving a little space between the two. "I am...I'm so sorry for how I acted outside." he started, watching her from the corner of his eyes.
Brooklynn turned her head, connecting their eyes once more. "It's okay. It just...took me off guard. I wasn't expecting you to just walk away." she replied, with a small giggle at the end.
Drew chuckled. "Yeah, I'm still learning how everything works. My wolf...he's not exactly the best sometimes."
Brooklynn could tell he was nervous, uncomfortable even. His wolf intrigued her, how he wasn't reaching out to hers. It was like he didn't recognize her. "Do you mind me asking, does he not, like, react to me? At all?"
Drew took a deep breath, her scent wrapping around him once again. "He knows there's something there. But no, I haven't been told anything."
Brooklynn looked down, not sure how to respond. She wanted to make him feel comfortable, but she really didn't know how. He wasn't like any other alpha born man she had met. He confused her, threw her off. But not in a bad way. "I'm sure he'll come around." She paused, leaning back against the step behind her. "Or at least I hope he does. Cause my wolf is driving me insane."
The two wolves laughed, Drew following her lead and leaning back. "I probably screwed up every fantasy you've ever had about finding your mate."
"Ehh, maybe just one of them." Brooklynn joked, smiling brightly at his booming laughter.
Drew rolled his head to the side, their faces only a few inches apart. He seemed a little less tense, running his gaze over her face. "I'll just have to make it up to you then."
A blush creeped along Brooklynn's face. She looked down at her lap, her head only picking up at Andy's voice calling her name. "I'm here!" she yelled back, rolling her eyes as Andy jogged to where they were.
Andy stopped, glancing between the two. "Umm, hey." she said to Drew, giving him an awkward wave. He gave her one back, with a look of amusement. "Brook, Michael said you need to come back. You're being disrespectful." she said, imitating Michael's deep voice.
Brooklynn nodded and went to stand, but Drew had already risen and held a hand out to her. She smiled and took it, goosebumps raising on her arms as their hands met. "Thank you." she mumbled, turning back to Andy. "Okay, we're coming."
