Alex had gotten Brooklynn to the pack house, and the doctor was waiting for him in the med room. He laid her on the bed, stepping back as he waited for the others. Josh walked in the room, handing him a pair of shorts, clothes for everyone else in his other arm. "Is everyone okay?" he asked.
Alex didn't speak a moment, not sure how to answer. Nicole nor Aldrich had mind linked him, so he still didn't know if Drew had gained control of himself. "I- I don't know. Drew..he..he.." Alex met Josh's eyes, mind linking the rest.
Josh's eyes widened, his hand flying to his hair. "Shit. Shit."
Alex watched him, his eyes still wide. "Yeah, I haven't heard anything, so.."
Josh turned towards the wall and pulled at his hair. He turned back towards Alex, stepping closer, lowering his voice. "The pack can't know. Don't tell them, at least until we figure out what's going on."
Alex nodded. "Okay."
Brooklynn hadn't spoken a word since Alex got her, and he turned back towards her, keeping his eyes on her face. "Are you okay, Red?" he asked, using her nickname he had given her.
She nodded, her eyes tightly shut as the doctor grasped her shoulder in his hands. Her uninjured arm was hanging at her side, and her hand was in a tight fist. She had her teeth bared tightly together, grunting as the doctor put a little pressure on her shoulder.
"I'm sorry." the old man apologized. "Try not to move, I'm gonna try to pop it back in place. Are you ready?"
She nodded, her eyes opening and meeting Alex's. She was scared, her breathing picking up. Alex rushed to her side, grabbing her free hand in his. "You're okay, just breath."
She focused on his face, listening to the doctor count down before he harshly pushed on her shoulder. She let out a yell, tightening her grip on Alex's hand. Her shoulder still throbbed, and when she looked over at it, it still hadn't popped back in. "Fuck." she groaned, her eyes tearing up.
"One more time, I promise. It's just being stubborn." said the doctor. "Ready? One, two, three."
She yelled again as he pushed it, sighing in relief as she felt it pop back in place. The doctor told her to lay down, getting things needed to clean her stomach and begin stitching it. She did as he said, still holding Alex's hand. Alex knelt down by the bed, placing his other hand on the top of hers. "He's gonna numb you up, you won't feel a thing, okay? I promise."
Brooklynn felt a tear roll down her face. "Drew, is he...is he okay? Have you heard anything?"
Alex sighed, looking down for a minute. He picked his head back up, shaking it. "I haven't heard anything."
Brooklynn felt more tears fall, but nodded, looking up to the white tiled ceiling as the doctor began numbing her. "Alex?" she asked, not looking at him as he hummed in reply. "Have you ever seen that?"
Alex glanced at the doctor, who gave him a knowing look. He wouldn't repeat what was said, and Alex knew it. "Yeah, Red, I have. When I was a kid."
"Who?" she asked, finally turning to look at him.
"Aldrich's dad. He partially shifted when Luna Alice was killed."
Brooklynn searched his face, gathering her words. "What happened, after he did it?"
Alex took a deep breath, clenching her hand gently in his. "He was able to pull out of it. He was fine, physically. When Alice died, it changed him. He wasn't himself afterwards. The partial shift didn't do it."
Brooklynn had heard of Arvin Branson, how mean and cruel he was after his mate died. She feared the same would happen to Drew. He looked like a monster, a true beast when he had partially shifted. Alex could tell what was running through her mind. He squeezed her hand, giving her a small smile. "He won't turn out like that. He's strong, he has immaculate control of his wolf. He was just scared, that's all. He feared for your safety, and it pushed him over the edge. He'll be fine."
