A few weeks had passed since Brooklynn had moved out. All the things her and Andy had bought had been delivered, and the youngest sister, along with their mother, had come to the house and helped decorate and arrange things. Brooklynn had settled in, looking forward to the weekends, when Andy, and much to both of their surprise, their mother, would come and stay. Apparently, their mother needed a break from their father too. Nicole would let her mom stay in her room, the two of them sharing the bed and bathroom, since she hadn't bought a house with an extra room for her mom.
Brandon had it easy, being the only son. He preferred his father over anyone else, since he was always put on a pedestal, so it didn't bother him when Andy and his mother left for the weekend. He looked up to Michael, wanting to be just like him someday. It worried Rachel at how close the two were. She loved Michael, yes. But that didn't mean she wanted her children to follow in his steps.
The three woman would all cook dinner together, laughing and smiling, something they weren't able to do with Michael around. They watched movies together, talked about boys and girls, and just enjoyed each other's company. It had become a routine, and Brooklynn wasn't looking to change it. She hadn't felt so close with her mom as she did then, when it was just the three of them together. No distractions, no judgmental eyes from Michael. It was bliss.
Brooklynn sat in her room, newspaper clippings and articles taken from magazines strewed across her bed. Her mom and Andy were busy hanging pictures, Rachel being a perfectionist, and obviously the best one to handle the decorating. They finished hanging a large picture on the wall across from Brooklynn, the two stepping back to look and make sure it was straight. Andy turned after a moment, making her way to Brooklynn. "What ya got there?" she asked, plopping on the bed beside Brooklynn.
"Just some stuff about my idol. I plan on hanging them above my vanity." Brooklynn replied, cutting a picture of a woman out of a magazine, along with the article that had been written about her.
"Who is it?" Andy asked, her eye brow raised, looking at a newspaper article. "Alpha Nicole Danielson." she read, scumming the article. "Why is she your role model?"
Brooklynn finished cutting the page, glancing at Andy. "Why wouldn't she be? She was the alpha of Silent Ash in Alabama. Once she met her mate, Alpha Branson of Nightshade, she refused to submit to him. So, now, they lead Nightshade together. She's the only living alpha female."
Rachel turned and walked over to the girls, overhearing the conversation. "She's a sweet woman, a bit cocky though. I met her once at a council meeting a few years ago."
Brooklynn turned to her mom, her eyes wide. "You've met her? What's she's like mom?"
Rachel laughed and sat beside Brooklynn, picking up one of the newspaper clipping. "Like I said, she's very nice. She can be a bit cocky though. I don't blame her, she had to bust her ass to get to where she is. The country almost had an uprising when she became alpha. But she didn't back down."
Brooklynn smiled, glancing down at the picture Andy held of the woman. "I would die to meet her, Mom. Like, seriously." she paused, laying back on the bed. "How awesome do you have to be to just completely ignore the rules and make your own? I mean, really? And her mate, he seems like such an amazing person. Regardless of what people say about him."
Rachel chuckled, laying back beside her. "He is. It's amazing how he treats her. The whole time at the meeting, not once did he speak over her, contradict her. He showed her the same respect he showed the other alphas there."
Andy pulled her knees to her chest, looking at her mom. "I wish Dad could be like that. He's just a...asshole."
The girls all giggled, silently agreeing with one another.
