𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐲-𝐓𝐰𝐨: 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐄𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫

Did we perhaps spend hours in that library? Yes, yes we did. We took turns reading to each other various small stories and we also collected some books that I could take back with me to the camp as I couldn't come out here all the time.

It feels just like taking books out and returning them when they are due... mmm, more ideas for the future.

"Did you have fun?" 10B communicated as we came upon him. He was leaning against a tree with his arms folded. Though, something looked a bit off.

"Ten, did you get into a fight?" I asked, completely ignoring his question as I stepped over to him and tried touching his face only for him to move away.

"So what if I did? It doesn't matter."

"Was it with that deserter?" 9S chimed in, curiously looking over 10B's damages from afar.

"I said it didn't matter, just drop it," the berserker barked back, "I'm just going to assume you had fun. Anyways, it's late, we should be heading back."

And with that, 10B commenced towards the camp. 9S and I glanced at one another with concern before hurrying after him. Yes, it's not unusual for him to get annoyed if you ask something he doesn't wanna answer or that he finds unimportant. But never have this happened before, at least, not when I've been around. Not to mention, I had never heard of there being a deserter around the forest. I've been here a few times in the past with my little crew on various occasions... mostly to take cover from the machines.

Perhaps I'm thinking of this too much, they could have just recently deserted, it's not strange with everything that happened and is going on.

I was dragged out of my thoughts when 9S halted me by drawing me into an embrace. I had no clue what was going on until I concentrated my attention on what was in front of me. 10B had his bracers on as he was intercepting a long sword from coming down on him. On the other side of that sword, was a woman I saw before. She had long white hair and seemingly little to no clothing as most of it looked torn.

"I wasn't done with you," she said rather bluntly towards Ten as he groaned.

"Well, I was with you. Look, I have a job to do, I don't have time for your little game, A." the male unit snapped back at her, "If you really want, we could finish this later."

The woman was hushed, pulling her sword away as she glimpsed back at me. "So, this is the oh-so-great human I've heard about. Fine, you better be back here soon."

"Yeah, yeah, okay." 10B huffed, probably rolling his eyes and before anyone else could say anything, she slipped back into the trees.

"Who was that?" I requested after a few moments.

"A deserter of YoRHa, her name is A2... she's an older model," 9S responded, "Ten, you seem quite acquainted with her, you know that―"

"Shut it, scanner. I know." the berserker snapped back again, "Sorry, I just―it's fine. I know the consequences if I get caught."

"Have you?"

"Perhaps..." he quietly answered. "But those androids all had... freak accidents."

"10B! You've been... killing your own kind to protect her?" I spoke, rather quietly.

"Look, A2 isn't bad, that's why. I bet you would do that too if you were an android, (Y/n). Maybe not for A2, but for another deserter you've grown close or been close to." he replied, "Anyways let's get going."

I fell silent, having the remark that was on the tip of my tongue snatched away.

He's right. I would... It's not right what the Commander has them do to deserters. God, I remember what 1X had to do and I could tell he didn't want to hurt those two girls that were a part of that group, but he had to. For my safety and because of his protocol.

The walk back to the camp was once again awkward with 10B being there, but it had an overall different feel than before. 9S had told me more about A2―or all that he could about her. Turns out she's basically YoRHa's first ever and longest deserter, she's evaded all that they sent her way whether it was by killing them or escaping. It was only recently that it was discovered that she apparently spends a lot of time in the forest thanks to 2B and 9S' encounter with her and some other androids after.

Seems like the corruption of the YoRHa has been around for a long time, but good on her for avoiding everything thus far.

"Alright, we're here. Stay in the camp please, at least, until I get back." 10B declared the second we came upon the entrance of the camp. He reached over and ruffled up my hair before dashing off back to the sea of trees.

"Welp looks like I'm grounded," I chuckled, looking over at 9S. "Thank you for today, Nines, I had a wonderful time."

"Of course, I wanted to make my lover smile and I achieved that goal. Say... I still have time and I haven't been called for... maybe I can stay and help you fall asleep?" he softly asked, his cheeks dusting a faint red as he suggested staying with me.

"I'd love that," I mused, seizing his hand and taking him to my room. When we got there, we put everything we gathered down and away before crawling onto my bed and snuggling up to one another. "Goodnight, my love."

"Goodnight, darling. Sweet dreams," he expressed, kissing the top of my head.

Best day ever. All I hope is that we can keep this newfound peace for a little while longer.
