"All your insecurities. All the dirty laundry. Never made me blink one time."

~

Hermione

Leo was out all day and even missed dinner. A part of me wants to just go to sleep spite him. But so know he has something to tell me. He texted me an hour before dinner and said:

Leo:

I won't be making dinner. Stay up for me. I want to talk. I want to explain.

Explain. That word stuck to me like glue for the past few hours. My curiosity has me sitting at the bay window in the family room watching the night sky. Soft music played from the stereo system. I adjust my satin robe as I take a sip of red wine.

I've been drinking a lot lately. More than usual, it just helps the anxiety that grew into this monster inside me.

"This room looks more depressed than me." Jack's voice slurs and my body straightens as I hear him.

My eyes find him and I one look says it all. He's a drunken mess. His blonde hair is ruffled everywhere, his eyes are wide but distant, his dress shirt is untucked and wrinkled. I watch as he leans on the door Fran for support with a bottle of tequila in his hand.

"Jack, you're drunk." I state causing him to snort.

"Duh." He replies in a prep schoolgirl voice.

I raise my brows in amusement as I watch him stumble over to the sofa. He made such a easy action look like much of a struggle. He tilts his head back and takes another swig from the bottle.

I never seen Jack like this. The housekeepers talked about Christina getting in a big fight today, but I try my best not to dwell in their gossip. They talk about me too anyways.

Jack pats the sofa spot next to him, "Come sit with me Hermione."

I hesitate unsure of his state and the fact I don't trust him at all. I decide to walk over and sit on the coffee table that is placed in front of the sofa.

Jack eyes find mine, "You hate me too?" He asks almost in a pitiful way.

I roll my shoulders back and sit straight, "Jack, I just don't trust you if I'm being honest."

Jack just stares at me for a second, "I can understand that. But I would never hurt you. You're literally the queen. You don't understand the people that would kill me without a glance if I did anything to you."

"Leo would never kill his brother." I say shaking my head.

"I wasn't talking about Leo." Jack slurs causing me scrunch my face is confusion.

"Besides Hermione, I like you. You make Leo better. You make him want to be better. It's been awhile since I seen his light glow. And we been through a lot, I didn't think it will ever shine again. Christina was my light."

"You abuse Christina." I slip out, my hands flying to my mouth as soon as the words come out.

Jack face contorts as if I just stabbed him in his heart. He takes another swig of his tequila before dropping his head.

"When I met Christina, I thought she was greatest beauty I was blessed to look at. She was at dinner with friends and I just remember when I seen her smile I thought, she had to be the goddess of light."

"What happened? Why did you change?" I ask now interested.

"Christina's father told me I would never amount to the man she will ever want or need the day I met him. The funny thing is though he wanted a deal with the family. My trust issues with Chrissy became overbearing I guess. She had this guy best friend named Henry. I admit I was jealous of their friendship. How she always went to him if she had good news or needed someone to vent to. Even if I was busy building the family back up and gearing to take over the company. I still wanted to be there for her."
