Aliyah Staton
The next day I went shopping with Georgia; we went around from store to store trying on clothes and shoes. She was excited about homecoming next month and we did some window shopping for dresses. I still hadn't decided if I wanted to go or not; I had never been to a school dance before. I was tired from the long day of shopping when I arrived home that night. I found a note on the kitchen table from my father saying that he would be out late helping the tribe with something. I had just finished eating dinner when there was a knock at the door. I hadn't heard anyone pull up or seen any lights so I was a little nervous when I went to the front door. The face I seen through the glass door was definitely not one I was expecting; nor did I really care to see.
"Can I help you?" I asked rudely after opening the door.
"May I come in so that we can talk?" Amaro asked.
"There really isn't anything that I would like to talk to you about," I said not moving from the doorway.
"Look I know you are mad about last night. I just came to apologize to you."
"Then apologize," I said still not moving an inch.
"Ali just let me come in so that we can talk about this," he said taking a step forward.
"Fine but if you even start being a jerk I'm kicking you out. I'm not going to fight with you anymore." I stepped aside to allow him to enter. He walked into the living room and sat down on the couch; I sat on the chair across from him.
"I guess I should do the proper thing and ask you if you want anything to drink?" I asked trying my best to play good hostess.
"No I'm fine, but thank you," he said putting his head in his hands. I wondered to myself if he had ever apologized to anyone before. It seemed like he was having a hard time trying to get it out. "Look I don't really know how to say this, but I will try my best. I want to start with saying that I am sorry about the way that I talked to you yesterday I should have handled it better than that. I was raised in the tribe to be a leader like my father, it is in my blood. Tadeo is young but he needs to learn his place in the tribe. I know that you may not understand that because we do not live our lives like most people do. I understand that you think I was being too harsh on him, but it is needed for him to grow up strong and know his place in the tribe. I hope that you can forgive me for my actions."
"Thank you for the apology. I will try my best not to use my judgment against you for your actions with your tribe members, if you do your best not to treat me like a child when you talk to me. I have a quick tongue and I have been known to speak before I think. Maybe we can both learn something from yesterday," I said trying my best at an apology too.
"Agreed, I should go now I have some things to deal with back home. Goodnight Ali," he said as he headed for the door.
"Goodnight Amaro," I said closing the door behind him.
Maybe I was wrong to make such a quick judgment on him for the way he treated Tadeo. I just assumed that he was a self righteous conceded asshole, when really he could be a nice guy. This was the first time that I had seen him look even the slightest bit vulnerable. Usually he seemed so sure of himself; like he always knew everything. It was nice to be able to see another side to him. I headed up to my room to get some well needed sleep.
Amaro Black
It had been a week since I had seen Ali; other than a few times at school. The only reason I was here today was because my dad requested I come talk to her about her issues with the wolves. She knew the wolves weren't going to hurt her. Why did she have to make such a big deal about it? Harlin and Koda were doing patrols and Tadeo begged me to take him with me. He had only met Ali in wolf form and wanted to be able to meet her in person too. When we arrived Mr. Staton was on his way out of the house. He told us to just wait inside for Ali, so we did. I heard her car pull up and she walked in the door.
