The sound of a truck pulling down the driveway woke me from my light slumber. I sat up and blinked my eyes; trying to adjust to the bright sunlight.

"Excuse me miss?" A southern accent came from the direction of the truck; my vision still wasn't focused enough to see anything. "Would you mind lockin' up them dogs so I can unload the truck?" He asked. I could now see that he was an older burley looking man and the two wolves that were previously posted at my front door now stood guard in front of the truck.

"They're not mine, but let me see what I can do," I said as I started to head for the house.

I only made it a few steps when Amaro came out the front door. Without saying a word he gave a quick nod of his head towards the wolves and they made their way back up to the porch. I watched the man as he unloaded our cars from the trailer then went back to the cab of his truck for some paperwork. When he turned back around with the clipboard in his hand he stumbled back almost falling into the truck. I followed his shocked stare to the right of my body to find a much smaller light brown wolf sitting next to me.

It should have scared me too but for some reason it didn't. Maybe it was because it was only half the size of the other two wolves, or maybe it was because it had that innocent little puppy dog look on its face. I just shrugged my shoulders and held out my hand for the clipboard.

"How many of them things do you have?" He asked pointing to the spot on the paper I needed to sign.

"Your guess is as good as mine," I said handing him back the signed paperwork.

"Well have a good evening miss," he said before jumping back in his truck and making his way back down the driveway. I was happy to finally have my car here. As soon as our house guests left I would go in and get some money to buy my much needed curtains. I wondered how much longer they were going to stay; I was getting restless with nothing to do.

I made my way back to the hammock; the new little wolf following close behind me. When I was settled back in I felt something pushing on my arm. I looked down to see the little wolf with the book I had dropped earlier in his mouth. He dropped it onto my stomach and sat down as if he was waiting for something. I looked at the book again still not interested in reading it and set it aside. The wolf got back to his feet and nudged the book at my side again.

"What do you want?" I asked; not expecting a response of course.

"Woof," the sound made me jump and I struggled to keep my balance in the hammock. "Woof," he barked again putting his paw on the book. He tilted his head at me like he didn't know why I couldn't understand what he wanted. He let out a soft whine and pawed at the book again.

"What do you want me to read it to you?" I asked; again it was a rhetorical question.

"Woof," he responded again; I could have swore he shook his head yes and his tail wagged.

"I am not reading a book to a dog. Sorry, to a wolf," I corrected myself.

This was just stupid I was sitting here having a conversation with an animal; an animal, who if I didn't know better, could understand everything I was saying. The little wolf let out another soft whine then laid down next to the hammock as if he was defeated. Moments later I heard the front door open and the sound of footsteps coming down the front steps. I sat up and watched the two men walk down the steps and head for their truck, the two wolves at their heels. The little wolf that was by me rubbed his head against my hand as if to say goodbye then joined the others. I half expected the men to lower the tailgate and let the wolves in the back but instead they just waited patiently next to it. The older man waved at me and I returned a wave to him; the younger man just gave me a hard stare then got in the truck. 'What a jerk', I thought to myself as I headed back up to the house. I watched them pull away; all three wolves trailing quietly behind them.
