Amaro Black

I was having fun watching Aliyah struggle with her questions, I know what she wanted to ask me but she didn't have the guts to spit it out.

"Do werewolves exist?" She finally asked looking me in the eyes.

'Shit!', I thought to myself when the words left her mouth; I thought for sure that she wasn't going to have the balls to ask. Fear washed over me not knowing what to say to her. I needed to talk to my dad before I said something to get myself in trouble.

"There are some things that are better left unknown Aliyah," I said standing up from the table. "I have to go," I added before quickly departing; I needed to talk to my dad.

I went straight from the cafeteria to my truck and headed home. My mind was going in circles wondering what I was going to say to Aliyah next time I saw her. When I arrived home I found my father in the living room watching TV.

"We need to talk." I said sitting on the couch across from him.

"What's wrong?" He asked turning down the TV.

"It's Aliyah, she started asking questions. I mean she's not really a werewolf so how much can I really tell her without breaking the rules?" I asked, desperately hoping that he would have the answers for me.

"Well it really is a thin line to tread. She is part werewolf, but it's obvious that the gene is dormant seeing that she has never phased. It's obvious that she knows that werewolves and vampires exist now, so you will have to tell her something. Just tell her enough to keep her safe without giving away our secret. She can know that werewolves exist; she just doesn't need to know their true identities. Does that help son?" My father asked.

"Yeah, I guess I can just play around the subject and hope that she doesn't ask too many questions," I said rubbing my temples; I really wasn't looking forward to having that conversation with Aliyah, but I knew it was unavoidable.

"Shouldn't you be at school?" My father asked looking down at his watch, then looking back at me with a disapproving look.

"Yeah but I had to ask you what to do before she asked me more questions. She's probably pissed at me now for the way I left her at school." I smirked a little at the thought; she had to think that I was just a huge dick.

By the time I left the house I would have been late to my last class by the time I arrived at school so I just decided to skip the rest of the day. I drove my truck up to one of the cliffs that overlooked the city and relaxed for the next few hours. I decided I should go to talk Aliyah before she starts asking her father questions; I wasn't sure how he would handle that. We hadn't told him about the attack from Bobby yet; we thought it would be better not to stress him out about it. I looked at my phone and I figured that Ali should be back from school by now, so I headed to her house.

If looks could kill I think I would have been dead standing there at her doorstep when she answered the door; yep, she was definitely still pissed about what happened at school.

"Can I help you?" She asked with an attitude.

"Are you going to invite me in?" I asked trying to keep it civil.

"That depends on why you are here," she replied raising her eyebrow. God she had such an attitude and it pissed me off. Well two can play at this game.

"If that's how you want to be I will just let you ask your dad the questions you want the answers to," I said turning to head back to my truck.

"Wait!" She said grabbing my arm to stop me from leaving; I smiled to myself at my little victory before turning back around.

"Something you wanted to say?" I asked teasingly knowing that she was desperate for my answers now. I watched her take a deep breath as if reading herself for something before speaking.

"Let me try this again. Hello Amaro, would you like to come in?" She plastered a fake smile on her face and motioned towards the door.

"Well I don't know, I think maybe I had something more important to do," I said looking down at my watch. I liked watching her get worked up and it was so easy to push her buttons.

I was surprised when instead of her turning to yell at me her lips turned down in a frown, and she looked hopeless. My wolf growled at me, angry that I had made her sad. Fuck, I pushed it too far.

"Please," she asked; it was barely a whisper.

I nodded my head and followed her into the house. It could tell that she was desperate for answers and I'm sure not having them was scaring her to death. We walked into the living room and set next to each other in the two leather chairs. I waited for her begin asking questions but she just sat there chewing on her lower lip like she was thinking of how she could start.

"Look I know you have a lot of questions and I will try to answer them the best I can, but there are some things that I just won't be able to tell you. So just ask whatever you want to ask and if I can't give you an answer I will tell you to move onto the next one. You can't argue with me if I can't answer a question for you, there are just some things that you are not ready to know yet." I looked up to see her staring at me intently. I could tell that she was surprised that I was willing to talk to her about this.

"Ok, that sounds fair. Can I start with the question that you didn't answer at lunch?" She asked, looking back down at her hands nervously.

"You're answer to that is yes, werewolves do exist," I said looking at her to judge her reaction. I was expecting fear or shock, but I didn't see any of that, she seemed calm.

"Ok, well what about Vampires?" She asked reaching up to hold onto her necklace.

"Yes they exist too," I said as I watched her cringle a little and close her eyes. I'm sure she was having a flash back of the night with Bobby.

"How do I know if someone is a vampire?" She asked, her eyes begging me for an answer.

I leaned back in the chair thinking about that question, I really didn't have an answer for her. For me it was easy to tell who was a vampire. I could smell them right away and if for some reason they were able to hide their scent then the fact that they didn't have a heart beat would give them away right away, but Ali didn't have the sense of smell and hearing like I did.

"I don't know," I finally said, really not having an answer for her.

"What?" She asked surprised.

"I don't know," I repeated, what else was I suppose to say?

"So I am just supposed to walk around like normal when anyone around me could be a vampire?" I could see her fear building as she spoke.

"Well I will let you know if anyone is a vampire. You just have to trust me." I said trying to calm her down.

"So wait you can tell who is and isn't a vampire?" She asked confused.

"I have my ways," I said.

"I guess I will take that as a 'next question'," she said while making quotation marks with her fingers. I couldn't help but laugh at her reaction.

She continued to question me for about another thirty minutes. She didn't really ask that much that I couldn't answer. She just wanted to know the basics like; do they kill people, if there was any way to tell if someone was one, if there were any more at school that she should know about. I can't believe that she didn't know anything about vampires, did she even watch TV. I mean everyone should know the basics about them even if they aren't all true. What surprised me the most was the lack of questions she asked about the wolves; maybe she just felt more comfortable with them seeing that they saved her and didn't try to kill her.
