After hours of cleaning and scrubbing, Sophia and I get the house in order while my mom sleeps the day away. We mowed the lawn, pruned the flowers, watered the pots of plants, cleaned the pool, and fed the birds before going back inside and moving onto the next thing. We decided it'll be better to still be cleaning when my mom wakes up, not wanting a to anger her more than we already did.By the time that we run out of things to do, my mom is already up and getting ready for work. I made her lunch and dinner as she slept and packed it up for her to take with her.
Sophia and I stand side by side, both with our heads down as she does a sweep of the house. She comes back towards us with a hard look on her face, distain in her eyes. She look around the kitchen one last time before clearing her throat, drawing both of our attention towards her.
"Good. Now. You both are not to call, see, or speak to anyone until we return from the beach house. You both are grounded and cut off. If I hear so much as a breath taken the wrong way, I will not hesitate to get the chancla and beat both of you into next week. Do I make myself clear?"
"Yes, Mami..."
"Yes..."
"Good. Now. I'll be back later. Love you both."
She kisses my cheek before grabbing everything, including the two meals I packed, and heads for the door. She stops, turning around one last time before she opens the door.
"No TV, Movies, Music, or fun. I want you both miserable until we leave..."
The phone rings, causing her to roll her eyes as she walks over and answers it. She looks annoyed as she glances at me before hanging it up. I try to hide my curiosity as she grumbles to herself in Spanish, turning and walking out the door.
Sophia sighs, looking at me with a smile. She goes to speak when I stop her, listening out for the car to start. It fires up, revs a few times, before it slowly starts to get quieter. I creep over to the window, slowly peeking out to see my mom's car driving down the road. I exhale as I turn, looking at Soph with a small smile.
"She's gone..."
"Let's go swim!"
I shrug before heading upstairs towards my room. I walk inside, seeing my window open when I know I closed it. I silently open my closet door, which is right beside me, and slip in before silently shutting it. I reach down by the dresser, grabbing my old tennis racket as I back up with my eyes on the door.
My heart is going a mile a minute as my breathing picks up. I curse myself as I remember Sophia and pray she's okay. As I continue to back up, I hear the floorboards creak behind me. I freeze, going completely still as my breath leaves me. My ears ring as I force myself to turn around, finding nothing there. I exhale as I slump against the door, Rubbing my eyes as I calm myself down.
"BOO!?"
I scream, turning around and seeing Archie Andrews' smiling face staring at me. I hear laughter right as I swing, striking the intruder in the side. They grunt out before grabbing the racket from my hand and holding it up. I kick them in the stomach before turning around and rushing out of the closet.
I run out into the hall, finding a frantic Sophia rushing out of her room. She's in nothing but a red bikini as I grip her arm, pulling her towards the stairs. She's asking me questions as I ignore her, rushing down the stairs and towards the door.
"Wait! Wait! It's just me!"
I stop, turning around fast to see Stu rushing down the hall. He's gripping his side with the Halloween mask resting on his forehead. I gasp in anger before I walk over, flicking his ear before grabbing the mask off his head in a huff.
"Ow!"
"What the hell are you doing here, Stu!"
"It's past three..."
"So!"
"We were supposed to meet at one like normal. You didn't come so I called your house while walking over. Your mom answered but didn't answer my question, so I waited for her to leave before climbing in through your window..."
I flick his ear again before looking down at the old Halloween mask in my hands. Sophia walks up, looking at it over my shoulder as she crosses her arms across her chest. Stu rubs his ear in front of us as he scrunches up his face in discomfort.
"Why do you have an Archie Andrews mask anyways?"
"It's an old Halloween costume...what were you doing in my closet?"
"I wanted to scare ya..."
I glare at him before looking at Sophia, sighing as I hand her the mask. She looks at me in confusion as she slowly grabs it and holds it up. Stu smirks as he takes in Sophia's appearance as I scoff and grab him, directing him towards the door.
"Will you put that up?" She nods as I smile, opening the door and pushing Stu out. "I'll be out back in a minute, okay?"
"Yep..."
"Hey!"
I shut the door as I turn towards the male in front of me. He rubs his head as he looks at me in confusion. I cross my arms as I look at him, whispering as he stares me down.
"Look...Sophia and I are currently in house arrest for going to your party last night. You can't be hear and I can't speak to you. Thanks for stopping by. See you in two weeks."
"But.."
I step in and slam the door before he can continue. I huff before locking the door and walking up the stairs. As soon as I get to my room, I walk towards my window and look out. I see Stu walking down the street towards his farm house down the road, rubbing his head as he glances back.
I shut and lock my window before closing the curtains and walking back towards my closet. I open my swimsuit drawer and grab the first one I see, not caring what it looks like before stripping down and changing. I end up in my baby blue bikini from last summer before grabbing a towel out of my bathroom and heading for the door.
