After a day of sightseeing and familiarizing ourselves with the town, all six of us head back to the beach house. Sophia still hasn't smiled as much today, to upset with the cold shoulder she's receiving from her mom. Tiff and I have tried everything to cheer her up, even getting her favorite candy and drink for her, but...She still didn't let loose....
My mom is currently cooking, my aunt helping her as the girls set the table. I smirk towards Tiffany, silently telling her it was time as I walk into the kitchen. Aunt Luisa is making the tortillas while my mom stirs the steak, the homemade salsa and guacamole sitting on the counter beside them.
"Hey Mami..."
"Yes"
"Isn't that your favorite tequila?"
She stops, looking where I'm pointing. An unopened bottle of Tito's sits on top of the fridge, calling to be drank.
"How did that get there?"
"I don't know...maybe it was left here..."
"Hmm..."
She goes back to cooking, shrugging it off as I lean against the counter.
"Isn't that used to make margaritas? The kind you like?"
"Mija...go do something else."
"Okay! Love you!"
I walk away, already knowing that my plan will succeed. Anytime my aunt comes to visit, my mom and her have margaritas. Though...they haven't in years. I walk back into the dining room, smiling at the other three as they look up.
"Did it work?"
"We'll see."
I smile, helping them with the last of the utensils.
——
After eating our burritos and cheesecake, my mom and aunt disappeared into the kitchen as the girls and I go upstairs. Bonnie is talking with Sophia, seeming to be getting along great as Tiff and I wait patiently for our plan to move forward. The sound of the blender causes me to smirk, making eye contact with my partner in crime.
"It worked!"
"Come on!"
——
We creep down the stairs, finding my mom and aunt drinking what I knew they would be. I hold back my smirk as I walk in, Tiff and Soph behind me as Bonnie walks down the stairs.
"Mami?"
"Yes?"
"What are you doing?"
"Making margaritas!"
My Aunt answers, causing Sophia and I to share a confused look. Her mom hardly ever acts this way, only ever being stiff and distant. They both have half empty cups already, making me realize how much they've already drank. Aunt Luisa suddenly hits the table over and over, pointing towards my mom.
"We need mùsica!?"
Sophia smiles, walking over to the stereo in the living room. She turns it on, switching to a channel she knows everyone will like as I smile at Tiffany. Sophia and her mom start to dance, my mom not far behind them. I laugh, grabbing Tiffany's hands to start dancing with them.
I spin her around, laughing as she sings along to the song playing. I don't recognize it right off the top of my head, but that's not what matters right now. She spins me around next, both of us laughing now as I almost hit the couch. I spot my aunt slow dancing with her margarita, her eyes closed and head swaying.
"Come on!"
I here Sophia from across the room. She's grabbing Bonnie's hands, trying to get her to join as my mom does a whole ass routine in the kitchen. My smile becomes permanent as Tiffany spins me again, laughing over the music.
——
"Okay...they're out. Let's move."
Tiffany says, rushing to her room as I cover up both my mom and aunt. Sophia is downstairs cleaning so we don't get yelled at in the morning as Bonnie does whatever she's doing.
I set a bottle of pain relief on my mom's table next to the glass of water I brought up here with me. Silently, I creep towards the door before switching off the light and gently shutting the door. I turn around, gasping as I see Tiffany hauling her mattress across the hall already.
"What are you doing?"
She stops, looking up at me as she huffs a little. Her breath is ragged, more than likely from struggling to move the twin mattress across the hall.
"Moving the bed...I'm not spending the night alone with her! I need this!"
I mouth a quick okay before moving to help her. The last thing we need is something breaking because of her stubbornness.
——
We all downstairs after situating the mattress between Sophia and I's beds, finding Sophia alone. Bonnie is no where to be seen, not even upstairs.
"Where's Bonnie?"
"She went outside...wanted to enjoy the beach."
"But it's after midnight...."
"Guys! There's a party down the beach! Not even a block away!"
"Really?"
"Yeah! Come on! I saw so many hot guys...I'm pretty sure it's a college party."
"Should we? What if my mom wakes up..."
"You know better. They won't be up till after one tomorrow..."
I nod, realizing Sophia is right before looking down at my clothes. I'm just wearing pink sweats and a white graphic T that matches, not that it really matters to me.
"Sure...I mean it's a nice night."
"Yes! Okay."
Bonnie leads the way, guiding us towards it as we leave through the back door. The sky is clear, the moon shining full as the waves crash into the sand. It really is a nice night.
Sophia wraps her arm around my shoulder, smiling as we walk towards the bonfire towards the left of our beach house. Music and laughter can already be heard as we walk up, taking in the scene. Teens and college students sway to the music playing, red cups in their hands.
"This is great."
Bonnie says, moving towards the keg as Sophia drags Tiff towards the stereo. They start to dance as I watch them, taking in the party scene. A smile forms on my face as they laugh and smile across the party.
Someone bumps into me, spilling their drink down my back. The smell of beer fills my nostrils as the cold liquid drips from my used to be white shirt. I'm completely frozen, holding my hands up as the person starts to drunkenly apologize.
"Hey...I think you've had enough, Jack."
A familiar voice says, pushing the drunk boy away as he takes off his jacket. The mystery person holds it out to me as he finally comes into the light.
"No fuckin' way! Chrissy?"
