Mike Wheeler's POV:

I'm so mad that El has been lying to me, so I'm taking my anger out on Will; because If I lose Will, I won't lose my cover. And if I lose my cover, I lose my life, sort of. I do really care about El, and I do... well... love her. But do I love her romantically? I'd like to think so, but sadly, It's far from the truth. Over the past year, I've come to the realization that, I don't think I love El romantically. I get uncomfortable saying the word 'love'. Because that is not the word I can describe as the feelings I have towards her. But like I said, I need her. So I am sacrificing my most special relationship in my life, that I can't lose. Like, ever.

Right now, me and Will are looking for El around the roller skating rink she took me to as a welcome gift, Rink-O-Mania. She's just been bullied by a ton of her so-called 'friends'. Right now, I'm upset that she hasn't been telling me this thigs and has been lying to me. I thought I was doing a good job at being her boyfriend.

"She should've told me she was having trouble" I point out to Will, after going in the girls bathroom to see if she was there.

"I didn't know they were gonna be here." Will tells me.

"You knew she was having trouble for a year and didn't tell me."

"I didn't know she was lying to you."

"Which is why you were a total douche all day?" I say in frustration.

"I wasn't being a douche." Will defends.

"You were." We stop and I turn to look at Will to tell this to him in his face.

"You were rolling your eyes, moping. You were barely talking. You basically sabotaged the whole day."

"She was lying to you! Straight to your face, ever since you got here." Will pauses and thinks about what to say next. "And I've been a total third wheel all day. It's been miserable."

God, I wish El was the third wheel.

Ugh intrusive thoughts.

"So, sorry if I wasn't... wasn't smiling." Will finishes.

I try to take in everything he had said and I don't know what to respond with so I brush it off and keep walking until we get outside to see if she was there even if it was raining.

"Well, What about us?" Will adds.

Us?

"What?"

Will catches back up to me and looks disappointed. "You're mad that I didn't talk to you? You made it super clear that you're not interested in anything I have to say."

"That's just not true."

"You've called maybe a couple times. It's been a year, Mike. Meanwhile, El has like a book of letters from you."

"That's because she's my girlfriend, Will. It's not my fault you don't like girls!" I yelled in anger, realizing what I had said and immediately regretting it. I rethink what to say next and try to get calmer. Will looks like I just broke his heart. I feel so bad. "Look, I'm not trying to be a jerk. But we're not kids anymore. I mean what did you think? That we were never gonna get girlfriends? That we're just gonna play game for the rest of out lives?"

Will takes a moment to think of a response.

"Well, maybe I did. But even if I didn't, maybe you should try and treat your friends better. I haven't even heard that much good stuff about you from El. If you're willing to do that, then I won't sabotage your amazing roller skating date with El." Will says before stomping into the parking lot to the phone booth.

"Will! Will, come on! I'm sorry, alright?!" I try to apologize. Jeez, what did I just do? I think I just lost my best friend. I kind of want to go home. I feel terrible.
