Will Byers' POV:

At this point, we've been fighting for hours, Eleven is weakening and our ammo is running out. I feel like giving up. I purposefully fall onto the ground, sitting on the ground. I reload my gun and when I look up I see Vecna looking down at me. I panic and look around for my friends, but they're not there. I look back to Vecna, he's still giving me the death stare.

"Get up." Vecna says in a raspy threatening tone. I quickly stand up and step back slightly with my gun which is now full with ammo.

"This isn't real, this isn't real, this isn't real, this isn't real." I whisper to myself. Vecna rolls his eyes at me and he pushes me against a tree.

"You're 'friends' aren't going to save you."

"They have every time so far, so I don't know how much of that I'm going to believe."

"Watch who you're talking to!" Vecna yells. "They don't love you. They just feel bad for you."

"T-that's not true."

"But it is true. Just look." Vecna takes me to one of my memories, I'm watching my younger self try to play D&D with Lucas and Mike but they don't show any interest. I get upset when they dismiss me and I storm out into the garage. I follow them and I see Mike and my younger self fighting.

"El's not stupid! It's not my fault you don't like girls!" Mike says.

"You see, he only cares about 'normal' things, he is ashamed of you." Vecna points out. I don't respond. Vecna changes the memory to when Mike came to California, we were at the airport and Mike came over to say hi to me and Jonathan. Younger me tried to give him a hug, he only looked uncomfortable and he pushed away my hug.

I'm brought to a ton of other memories, like my funeral when I was 12, me trying to comfort Mike in Argyle's van when we were 15, Mike kissing El at the Snow Ball when we were 13, me and Mike fighting in the roller rink when we were 15, and Mike's first kiss with El when we were 12.

Finally, Vecna brings me to when El was fighting him in the back of a Surfer Boy's Pizza.

"Mike, don't stop. Okay?" Younger me tells Mike, putting my hand on his shoulder. "You're the heart. Okay? Remember that. You're the heart!" Younger me says, choking back tears. Mike hesitates but then talks to El again.

"El? I don't know if you can hear this, but... But if you can, I want you to know I'm here, okay? I'm right here. And..." Mike hesitates again. "I love you! El, do you here me? I love you. I'm sorry I don't say it more. I... It's not because I'm scared of you. I'm not. I've never felt that way. Never. But I am scared that one day, you'll realize you don't need me anymore. And I thought if I said how I felt, it would somehow make that day..." Mike looks around for a second and then continues. "hurt more."

Younger me looks to Mike with sadness and Mike continues.

"But the truth is, El, I don't know how to live without you. I feel like my life started that day we found you in the woods."

I look over to Vecna who is still standing next to me. "I want to see that day." He doesn't respond back but he does what I asked. Now, we're following 12 year old Mike, Dustin, and Lucas who are looking for me in the woods while It's storming.

"Will!" Mike shouts.

"Byers!" Lucas calls.

"I got your X-Men 134!" Dustin bribes. "Guys, I really think we should turn back." He suggests to Mike and Lucas.

"Seriously, Dustin? You wanna be a baby, then go home already!" Lucas responds.

"I'm just being realistic, Lucas!"

"No, you're just being a real sissy!"

"Did you ever things Will went missing because he ran into something bad? And we're going to the exact same spot where he was last seen? And we have no weapons or anything?" Dustin says anxiously.

"Dustin, shut up." Mike tells him.

"I'm just saying, does that seem smart to you?"

"Shut up, shut up."

The three of the stop and a rustling noise is heard in the bushes.

"Did you guys here that?" Mike asks. The noise happens again and they turn to where it's coming from. The sound of bushes and a tree branch breaking happens behind them and they all turn ot it, shining the flashlight on it. A little kid in a Benny's Burgers shirt. The kid has a shaved head and look at the three.

"That's El." I say to nobody in particular.

The three boys look scared and confused.

"He doesn't look like something life changing just happened." I say to Vecna.

"That's because he's lying. You see, Mike doesn't care about anyone. He's just selfish. He doesn't love El. He doesn't even love you." Vecna responds.

We're brought back to the empty field that me and my friends were fighting Vecna at.

"You're just a nobody. But I can make you a somebody. Everybody will know your name. You can get back at these people who only hurt you. Don't you want them to feel how they made you feel? Join me." Vecna tries to persuade me. I start to think of what this could mean to me. I'm being given an opportunity to feel like I'm the better one. I don't have anything to lose. There's no happily ever after for me anyway.

"Yeah, why the hell not?"

Vecna lets out a terrifying evil laugh.

Suddenly I'm brought back to the battle field and my 'friends' are there, facing my direction. They're fighting off Demogorgon's and Demobats while El is trying to use her powers to disconnect Vecna from his veins that are attached to many different trees. Vecna is high up in the tree and I am on the ground next to him. El looks down from where she was originally looking and notices me. Her face goes pale and her arms falls to her side.

"Will!" El screams.

I don't respond and just look her in the eye with anger. El looks fearful and most of the group are now looking at me.

"Will!!" Mike screams, louder than everybody else. "Get away from there!"

"No." I reply assertively. Most of those who are close to where I am are looking at me in shock. I looked at them with hardened anger.

"What...?"
