𐬾Missing Lifeguards𐬺
Matilda's POV༒ ༒1st July, 1985
I read it over and over, in fact, it had been in between my fingertips since I first received it. Billy... it had to be Billy.
But I physically couldn't confront him about the notes because I was still grounded... I desperately wanted to ask if they were from him and why - if they were. The only good thing about being grounded was that I had a lot of time to think, but once I came to a conclusion that I wanted to talk to him I couldn't do anything because I was stuck in my bedroom, with an angry mom who hated me.
Today was the first time in a month that I'd been out of the house because mom and Rebecca had decided together that my behaviour had been 'good' enough, they'd allowed me to go to Starcourt for work at The Gap.
"It's been so great to have you here again, Matilda. It's been chaos without you with all the kids being on summer break - don't be a stranger!" Cassandra waves with a sweet smile. I was surprised she'd even remembered me, I'm surprised a lot of people remembered me - some people from school said 'hello'.
I waved back, grinning as I left the store, "I'll be back, promise!"
As I approached the centre of the mall I noticed a familiar head of strawberry blonde hair, it was Chrissy... and Jason - they were walking hand in hand to the escalator, I guess they're going on a cinema date... I had to speak to her about the note.
I looked back and forth between the exit of the mall and Chrissy... I knew mom and Rebecca were keeping tabs on me, "Fuck it," I start running up the escalator, they were stood in the queue for the cinema, "Chrissy!"
She turns, her eyes darting around until she sees me running towards her, she grins widely, "Tillie - hi!" She opens her arms for me to hug her, "Where have you been? I've missed you so much, I've tried to call but your mom kept on telling me you were ill!" She pouts, still holding onto my arms, "I was worried about you!"
