10th October, 1985 - 31st October, 1985
𐬽Matilda and Eddie walked together to class after their little meeting in the woods.
Eddie, even though Matilda had been the one to propose walking together, he walked ahead slightly as they approached Mrs O'Donnell's classroom, but Matilda would only pick up her walking pace to try and catch up with him.
Truth was, he was excited to be walking with her... and nervous - it unconsciously made him walk faster. He couldn't stop a smile from forming on his lips when he noticed that she'd made the effort to walk beside him again.
When they reach the classroom he stands beside the entrance and bows slightly, holding his arms out and gesturing for Matilda to enter before him - she giggles softly and nods, mouthing a 'thank you' before walking in.
She could feel everyone's eyes on her and on Eddie, who was walking behind her. It was the same when she'd walked with him back onto school grounds, everyone stared like they were two wanted criminals walking openly about the town.
Matilda did her best to ignore it by not even looking or listening to the people who were whispering and giggling under their breaths. Eddie found it way easier to ignore, but still felt guilty for the way that she was being treated just for walking into a room with him.
What would happen if they found out that we're friends? Eddie asked himself as he sat himself down at his designated desk next to Matilda's, he flashed her a closed mouth smile and watched as she stared ahead of her at Chrissy and Jason, who kept looking over their shoulders at her like Matilda was 'the new girl', like they didn't already know her.
Matilda noticed Eddie looking in the corner of her eye and shook her attention off of the couple at the front of the classroom - instead focusing on Eddie and returning a small smile.
Mrs O'Donnell distracted them, starting the lesson and halting the short but sweet moment. She ordered that a history book be passed around the class to be read aloud, a paragraph each before passing to the next reader.
When Eddie had his hands on this book any kind of shyness within him vanished, he was in a complete theatric mode, reading to the rest of the class excitedly, dramatically and fully invested in the words in his assigned paragraph - everyone glared at him except for Matilda, she enjoyed watching him, the way his hands gestured, his eyebrows raised with his voice.
Matilda had a hand rested under her chin as she watched him, all the way to his last word - she even giggled softly, which caught his attention and made him smile shyly at her yet again.
"May I remind you, Munson - that this is not a drama class," Mrs O'Donnell pressed her lips together, raised her brows at him before she turned to Matilda, "Next paragraph, Matilda."
Matilda nodded and gulped nervously before reading in a small voice - Eddie did the same as she did during his reading, he watched her with his chin rested on his palm, a faint blush on his cheeks and sweat formed above his brow from the adrenaline of his performance...
