On a snowy winter's day, Chad and his Actorville buddies, Digby Wolfe and Lord Tim Hudson were out in the park with Chad's daughter Idina.
"Duck duck goose! Duck duck goose! Duck duck goose!" Idina squealed.
"Alright, Idina. We'll play duck duck goose one more time" said Chad.
"But then we have to go winter bird tracking" said Digby.
"Duck duck goose" said Idina.
"We're playing, we're playing" said Tim.
The men sat on the ground and Idina tapped their heads.
"Duck... duck... duck... duck... duck..."
She tapped Chad's head when she said "Goose!"
Chad ran after his daughter saying "Watch out, duck! Here comes the goose!"
Idina made it and sat in Chad's spot.
"Idina made it back first. The duck wins again" said Tim.
J. Pat O'Malley made his way there and said "Hello, lads. Are you ready for winter bird tracking?"
"We certainly are, Pat" said Digby.
"Duck duck goose" said Idina.
"Sorry, Idina sweet. We can't play anymore" said Chad.
"If we take pictures of five different kinds of birds, do you know what we get?" said Tim.
Idina shook her head no.
"Our winter bird tracking badge!" said the four men together.
"Then let's get started. Have we got everything we need?" said Pat.
"I've got the camera" said Digby.
"I've got the bird tracking guide" said Tim.
"And I've got the bird seed to lure the birds near us" said Chad.
Idina was about to go play, but then she saw two ducks and a goose.
"Duck duck goose!" she said.
"I told you, Idina, we can't play now" said Chad.
Idina rolled her eyes and walked off.
Later...
"Strange. The bird seed is gone" said Tim.
"Blimey. I thought I'd just sprinkled some on the snow" said Chad.
Idina had rolled a big snowball that picked up the bird seed on the way.
"Idina! Try to be more careful, little dear. You just picked up our bird seed" said Pat.
Idina hung her head and said "Sorry".
A little purple bird landed on the snowball and started eating the bird seed.
"Don't be sorry, Idina. You just helped us find a bird" said Tim.
"You're right, Timmy. It's a purple finch" said Digby.
"Thank you, little sweet" said Chad to Idina.
"Quick, Digby. Take a picture" said Tim.
Digby snapped a picture of the purple finch. They just needed to find four more different kinds of birds.
Some time later, the ducks and the goose came back and Idina tried to tell her father again.
"Duck duck goose" she said.
"I can't play duck duck goose now, Idina. I still have four birds to look for" said Chad.
But then he heard another bird chirping and ran to tell the others.
"Pat, Tim, Digby! I found another bird" said Chad.
"What did you see, Chad?" said Digby.
"It's not what I saw. It's what I heard. Listen" said Chad.
The other three heard the chirping too.
"It sounds like it's saying chickadee-dee-dee" said Pat.
"There's a bird called a chickadee. I saw it in the book" said Tim.
"Now we just have to get it to come out" said Chad.
"Use your bird seed, Chad" said Digby.
"Good thinking, Digby" said Chad.
The bird seed worked. The chickadee came out and the guys took a picture.
Mere moments later, Idina tried to tell Chad about the ducks and goose she saw.
"Duck duck goose!" she said.
"Idina! Be patient, luv. I'm nearly finished" said Chad.
"Duck duck goose!" said Idina with frustration.
Just then, a cardinal landed on Chad's bird seed bag.
"Fellas! I found a beautiful red bird" said Chad.
"Blimey! It's a cardinal" said Tim.
"Ah, yes. The winter bird with the beautiful song" said Pat.
Digby took a picture of the cardinal.
They just needed to find two more birds, but they couldn't find any.
To make matters worse, Chad's bird seed was missing.
"Where's my bird seed?" said Chad.
Tim looked down and saw a trail of bird seed and footprints.
"There's something here that might lead us to it" he said.
"A-ha! Idina tracks" said Chad.
The men followed the tracks to where Idina was.
"Idina. What are you doing with your father's bird seed?" said Digby.
"Duck duck goose" said Idina gesturing to her ducks and goose.
"Oh! I understand now" said Chad.
"So now we have a chickadee..." said Digby.
"And a cardinal" said Pat.
"A purple finch" added Tim.
"And the ducks and a goose make five different kinds of birds" said Chad.
"That means we'll get our winter bird tracking badges" said Pat.
"Yes. Thanks to my Idina and her..." Chad began.
"Duck duck goose" Idina finished.
