It's so weird having Luke at my house with no one home. I guide him to the kitchen, offering him a small snack which he kindly declines.
When we go up to my room, it's even more awkward.
"So this is my room." I try to break the silence.
He nods, "Yes, I remember."
I mentally slap myself in the face, remembering that he's already been here.
"Okay, so what should we start with?"
"You wanna know my favorite memory about this room?" He asks, ignoring my question.
"What?"
"It's where I finally got to kiss you." He doesn't make eye contact with me. I know that he's hurt, but he must know that bringing this up isn't the best idea.
"Luke......"
"You don't have to say anything. I know we're never gonna be anything more than what we are now. I get it, okay? You don't love me."
"Luke, it's not like that. I do love you.....as a friend. That's all we can be and that's all we ever will be."
"Just let me ask you one question."
"You came here to help me."
"One question."
I sigh. "What?"
He takes a step closer to where I'm sitting on my bed. "If Harry were to break your heart like I know he will, would there be a chance for us?"
I've never even thought about this. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't physically attracted to Luke. Would there ever be something between us?
"I don't know."
"Is it a possibility?" He pushes.
"Luke, I don't know!"
"It's a yes or no question, Anna!"
"Harry's not gonna hu-"
"IF HE DOES!"
"THEN YES!" I scream. Before I realize, the answer leaves my mouth and the words float around in the air as silence joins it. "If Harry were to really hurt me.....then I guess there would."
He smirks. "That's all I need to know." He sits down on the opposite side of my bed and opens his notes.
"What are you gonna do now? Try to break us up?"
"No. Harry will do that on his own."
"What?"
"I asked you that question for a reason, Anna. Harry's gonna hurt you. And now that I know there can possibly be a chance for us.....I'll wait for you."
"Luke, you don't have to do that."
"I want to." He insists.
After our tutoring session is over, I basically force Luke out of my house and into his car.
When I get back inside, I collapse onto my bed and fall asleep.
"Dude, homecoming is this Friday! Like I'm so excited, I don't even know what's going on!" Brynn goes on and on about the spectacular homecoming. I feel bad that Luke tried to make a move on me and asked me while he was tutoring me a few days ago. I had to turn it down.
Speaking of Luke.
"Hey Anna!"
"Hi!"
We pass by each other and keep walking. It was a simple gesture, but Brynn takes it to a whole other level.
