A few days passed. I haven't spoken to Harry in the process of those days.
Luke did end up asking me to the fair which I politely declined, telling him I had plans. I don't really have plans, I just don't want him thinking this is gonna turn into some relationship.
I'm in my kitchen after school, getting a snack when Courtney comes in.
"How are you feeling?" I ask.
She shrugs. "I don't really know how I feel about all this."
Courtney's baby is most likely to be dead by the time it's born. I know this must be a hard time for her so I shouldn't be selfish by mixing my own problems with it.
"I can cook dinner tonight. It'll give you a break."
"No, it's fine. I'll do it. Go on upstairs and do whatever teenagers do."
I know Courtney's upset. She's usually cheerful and peppy, but now she's dull and full of depression.
"So, how are you and Harry?"
"What?"
"Well, I assume you two are getting back together."
"I don't know. He asked to prove to me that he's changed, but....."
"Let him."
"What?"
"He's a man. Make him beg."
"I don't wanna hear what he has to say."
"Listen, guys make silly, dumb, stupid mistakes. If he loves you that much that he wants to make up for it, take it."
"So you're saying I should give him a second chance."
"No. I'm not saying date him. I'm saying, let him prove to you that he can force himself to be better for you." She says. "Who knows? You may want him back by the time he's done."
"I thought you hated him."
"He doesn't seem so bad. And I can tell you really care for him."
"I do, it's just.....he cheated and I can't get over it."
"And nobody expects you to."
"It just hurts."
"Robert cheated on me once."
My eyes instantly went wide as I hop up on a chair. "Spill!"
"We were at a party. He was drunk and talking to this girl on the dance floor while I was talking to one of my friends."
"So he was cheating while you were there?"
"I saw him with the girl, but was too drunk to think anything of it. Then he kissed her."
"I sense juiciness."
"It wasn't like that. They didn't have sex. It still counts as cheating though."
"But you forgave him."
"Sometimes, the people you love are worth forgiving."
For the rest of the night, I think about what Courtney said.
'Sometimes, the people you love are worth forgiving.'
Can I forgive him? Can I? I honestly don't know, but when he shows up at my window, all I wanna do is let him in.
"Can I help you?" I ask.
He smirks. "You gonna let me in or what?"
I let him in and he goes straight for my bed, plopping down as I lock the door.
