"I can't do this."

Molly huffed in annoyance and rolled her eyes, mainly out of exhaustion, as her arms fell limp to her sides. The Shade, who was standing a few feet next to her, crossed his arms as he leaned back against the wall.

"With an attitude like that, you're not."

Molly spun around and glared at him, "It's not my attitude! I just... I just don't get it!"

The Shade had been training her every day for a little over a month now. At first, she was worried about being a vessel of the light and the darkness. As The Shade put it, it made her a very unique, powerful being. She had so many questions at first. Does her having darkness in her mean she won't age either? He said no, she will still age... probably. Will she be able to travel between this world and the Shadowlands? Yes, but that would take a lot of practice. Will she be able to control this feeling of being tugged between the dark and the light? That was the only yes he seemed one hundred percent sure of.

"It's not that you can't do it," The Shade said, "It's your ego."

She nearly did a double take as she repeated, "My ego?"

"Oh, yes. You see, you've successfully managed to conjure up darkness. You have managed to create items in the form of darkness. You've even managed to grab something using the darkness. This is teleportation with shadows we're talking about here. You think you're going to pick this up as easy as the other things because it's what you always do. With school, your abilities of the light, and even your friends. Believe me, I understand. You get that from your mother. Thinking you're better at learning and doing things than everyone else."

"I don't think she's where I get my ego from," Molly muttered under her breath with a slight eye roll.

"Let's try it one more time," The Shade ignored her, even though she knew that he heard her.

She turned away from him and just focused on the ground in front of her. Then, her eyes fluttered shut, seeing nothing but darkness. Her palms turned anteriorly, facing the darkness on the other side of the room. She could feel the cool air against her fingertips. Instead of pushing that coolness away, she tried to draw it towards her. She tried to let it consume her entire being. After a couple of seconds, she opened her eyes to see if she made any progress. However, she was still standing in the same spot. Her hands, however, were completely made of shadows. Molly still wasn't satisfied with herself.

"That's progress," The Shade insisted as he pushed himself up from the wall.

Molly just groaned and shook her hands, a shining purple light emerging to turn her hands back to normal. She turned to him and quipped, "Yeah, I could've teleported my hands to the other side of the room and the rest of my body right here."

"That's not possible," The Shade replied.

"How do you know?" Molly asked him stubbornly.

"Because, my child, that's never happened to me in over two hundred years. It's not possible," He replied as he walked over and grabbed his keys and top hat.

Molly still thought it was weird when he called her that. She just wasn't used to it. She was still trying to get used to the fact that he was actually her... father. She still hasn't told Aunt Tessa about it yet. She was worried about how she would react. Especially since Tessa had this perfect picture between her mother and Alex Claron in her head.

"Where are you going?" She asked him, attempting to change the subject.

"To meet an old colleague of mine. Also, we have to get you to school," He replied.
