Today was one of the most important days at Blue Valley High. Technically, Molly said this about every day at Blue Valley, but it was also important to a lot of other people. Today was the Regional Talent Show, where students from Blue Valley and three other schools around them would all compete in a Talent Show. The Presidents of their Student Governments would be the judges at the show unless they wanted to perform in the show. Since Cindy and Jenny were doing their usual dance routine, Molly would be taking her place as the judge. Usually she would be excited for this sort of thing. But not today.
Today, Molly was exhausted. She only got about two hours of sleep because she was up all night thinking about what happened at the diner. She literally created the ketchup bottle right in her hand, and Aunt Tessa acted like it was the same as any old ketchup. How is that possible? It's not. No human could ever just create something they're thinking of out of thin air.
But Molly did it last night.
Molly couldn't help, but stare down at her hands as she walked down the hallway. What if they just started glowing purple again? Would people think she's a freak? Would people even notice? She tried to not think of anything food related... or anything at all.
Molly was too busy in her own head that she ran straight into somebody's shoulder. She spun around, and her eyes widened when she saw Rick Harris standing across from her. He was nearly about a head taller than her with a slightly annoyed expression. It made her nervous.
"Sorry," Molly said quietly while shrugging her bag back up on her shoulder.
He just paused for a moment before turning around and walking away. Molly just sighed before turning around. Thankfully, she saw Cameron at his locker so she rushed over to him. Maybe he would be the only person who didn't think she was crazy.
"Hey," She said to him once she got there. Not even giving him the chance to speak, she continued, "The craziest thing happened-"
"Hang on. You're not going to want to miss this," Cameron grinned while motioning his head over to the side.
Molly looked at him confused before looking over his shoulder. She didn't even notice the crowd of people standing right next to them. She couldn't help, but smile lightly when she saw Joey Zarick standing across from Courtney Whitmore with a black top hat on his head. Joey always had a thing for magic. It was something that really fascinated him so she wasn't surprised when Joey told her that would be his act today at the show. Molly and Cameron loved to watch him do his tricks from afar. Sometimes, the tricks wouldn't always work, which made Molly feel bad for him. However, she always admired how he kept trying. He was shuffling the cards around in his hands, and once he was done, he spread the cards out and held them out to her.
"Pick a card, any card," He instructed Courtney, "And don't show it to me. Make sure you remember it."
She picked the first card that touched her fingers and handed it to him. He grinned excitedly as he shuffled the cards around. Everybody watched eagerly as he finally pulled a card out of the deck. He turned it around and asked Courtney, "So Courtney, all the way from California, is this your card?"
Molly could immediately tell by the way Courtney's smile slightly fell that it was not the card she picked. She couldn't help, but feel bad. Especially seeing how eager Joey and the crowd were waiting to hear her answer.
Then, to Molly's surprise, Courtney fake gasped in amazement and took the card out of Joey's hand, "Oh my gosh! Yes! How did you do that?! That's incredible!"
Joey smiled at himself proudly while everyone around him began to applaud. Molly immediately elbowed Cameron, who sat up from the locker and started to clap with everybody else. Joey told Courtney she could keep the card before walking away. As Joey passed her, Molly patted him on the shoulder and said, "I can't wait to see the act, Joe. You're going to do great."
