• Chapter 38

Molly and Rick ended up being late.

She was never late for anything, but when Rick kept kissing her, she couldn't say no. However, Molly was very strict on making sure they drove separately to not draw up any suspicions. So that resulted in her following Rick to Courtney's house. It did help that he drove faster than her, meaning she got there a few minutes after he did. That meant things would be... less suspicious.

When she pulled up and parked in front of the house, she saw Yolanda and Rick waiting for her in the driveway. She got out of her car and made her way towards them. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Rick biting his lip to contain his smile, making her insides turn into mush all over again. However, Yolanda was looking at her weirdly.

"Really? You couldn't change out of your pajamas for this?" She asked while eyeing her outfit.

"Hello to you too," Molly replied with a slight eye roll. Then, she asked, "What does it matter? It's not like I'm going to be wearing this down in the tunnels anyways."

The three of them made their way up the steps to the Duganmores' porch. While Yolanda stepped in front of them to open the door, Molly reached out and gave Rick's hand a quick squeeze. His fingers held onto hers for an extra second as they walked inside the house. The three of them didn't even bother knocking anymore since they'd been over there so many times. As Yolanda spun her head around and called out around the house, Molly and Rick's fingers let go of each other. When nobody came, they decided to check in the basement. That's where they finally found Sylvester, who was staring down at his Starman suit spread out on his bed. It looked in pretty good condition despite being murdered in it years ago. It must've gotten fixed up.

"Hello?" Yolanda spoke up as the three of them rushed down the stairs.

Sylvester spun around, seeming very surprised to see them. Once the three of them reached the bottom of the steps, he greeted them, "Hey."

"Hi, um, is Courtney here?" Yolanda asked him.

"No," He answered, his eyebrows furrowing in confusion.

"Yo-We've been trying to reach her," Molly quickly corrected, her cheeks starting to burn up.

"What's going on?" Sylvester asked them concerned.

Rick informed him, "Beth and Dr. McNider found evidence that Dragon King was the one who attacked you."

Sylvester seemed to become even more confused while asking in disbelief, "What?"

Rick just nodded his head and confirmed, "We think he's back."

"He may be in the tunnels under Blue Valley," Yolanda continued.

Molly found herself hesitating for a moment, but eventually said, "We were going to check."

Sylvester stared down at the three of them for a moment. Then, he turned around and looked at his suit. The cosmic staff was tucked away in its case next to his bed, but something told Molly it wouldn't be in there much longer. He turned back around and said determined, "I'll come."

"Okay, cool," Yolanda replied breathlessly.

"Yeah, great," Rick agreed with a grin.

Molly felt herself become uneven as she forced herself to add with a slight head nod, "Thanks."

Sylvester couldn't help, but smile down at the three teenagers as he said, "Let me suit up."

Once everyone was suited up and ready to go, Sylvester led the three teenagers back down into the tunnels. Molly hadn't been down to the tunnels since the day they defeated the ISA, and she honestly never thought she would have to go back down there. However, if Dragon King was hiding anywhere in the town, it would probably be in his old laboratory in the tunnels.
