• Chapter 9

The next morning, Molly woke up to a text from Courtney, who had added her into a group chat that had a name of just emojis relating to their superhero alter egos, and wanted to meet early at school to talk. Luckily for her, Molly always tried to get to school early so this would be easy for her.

Once Molly put on her jeans, button up shirt, and sweater, she walked out the door. She didn't live far from the school so it was only about a ten minute walk. There weren't many students in the parking lot yet, but Molly knew Yolanda was already inside since she came here to box every morning. Courtney wanted to meet in the weight room so that's where Molly headed. Since the halls weren't crowded, she got there pretty quick.

However, when she turned the corner, she halted in her tracks when she saw Rick about to walk in. There was a moment of awkward silence and staring before he opened the door to the weight room and motioned for her to go in. She gave him a slight nod in thanks before walking in. When the two of them walked inside, they saw Courtney, Yolanda, and Beth already there waiting for them.

Then, Beth asked innocently, "Did you guys come here together?"

"Gross," Molly and Rick both said in disgust at the same time. The two of them just turned to each other and glared for a moment before turning away. Then, Molly just cleared her throat and asked Courtney, "So, what did you want to meet about?"

That's when Courtney started spilling information about what went down last night. Stargirl went to Cindy's house, and they had another battle. At some point during the fight, Henry King Jr. showed up. It turns out that he has the same powers as his father and ended up blasting Courtney and Cindy across the whole subdivision with his mind. Cindy hasn't been seen since, but there was something else. Courtney said that Henry seemed scared and conflicted. He wasn't like Cindy.

That's why she wants to recruit him to the JSA.

When Molly turned to look at Yolanda, she saw that she looked absolutely infuriated. She immediately asked Courtney, "You want to recruit Henry?! Are you insane?! After everything he did to me?!"

Immediately, Rick spoke up from beside Molly and agreed with Yolanda, "I'm with Yolanda, Court. People don't change. On the surface, maybe, but not deep down."

"That's not true," Molly immediately replied while turning around to look at him, causing Rick to slightly roll his eyes.

"Yeah," Beth agreed with her while climbing off a bike and walking over to them, "That's not fair either. Look at all of us. We've all changed ever since joining the JSA. Why not Henry?"

Yolanda and Rick did not look happy about this. While Molly believed people were capable of changing, she didn't think recruiting Henry was a good idea either. It's too big of a risk, especially since Henry is very close to his father.

"Henry is his father's son. He didn't think twice about ruining my life. He'll end up hurting all of you," Yolanda said.

Rick immediately nodded his head in agreement and said, "Helping you against Cindy could be a trap. He could be planning to serve us up."

"Sometimes you just have to take a leap of faith!" Courtney said to him.

"Yeah, right before you fall on your face," Rick responded.

"I put faith in all of you, and I'm still on my feet," Courtney pointed out.

Molly just scoffed before saying, "That's because we're either good people or our parents were part of the Justice Society. Look, I'm all about change, but Henry's father is part of the Injustice Society. If he finds out what you did to his father, he's more than likely joining him to get revenge for you putting his psychotic ass in a coma. What makes you think he would betray his father's side? Why would we risk exposing ourselves to someone who I'm 99.9% sure wouldn't help us? If the ISA figures out our identities, we're toast."
